Really tired, but really proud of myself

Ahh, I do love Sunday mornings, my favourite (and most reliable) time to check in to SR. I have been CRUSHED with work lately, just so busy, and on top of that dealing with a million and one problems. But, i didn't drink!

I told you about my nightmare computer crash, I am still dealing with some bugs in my new (used) computer. My email is not working properly and I am having to find back up ways to get into everything. It is a huge stressor but I am making it through. The week after that, this happened:

There was a horrific, violent robbery at one of the villas I manage. The guests had JUST checked in. I had left them only an hour and a half when they called to say what had happened. I thank god that I was not in my old place. My former routine would have been "ok, my work here is done" and I would have headed straight to a bar to start drinking. Instead, I was sober and of sound mind, fine to drive and was back at the villa within 15 minutes ready to manage the situation as best I could. It was scary and stressful and t be honest when i came home late that night I did feel like having a glass of wine. But I knew that 1. I needed to remain clear headed and 2. more importantly i didn't want to throw away my sobriety.

This situation remained stressful and tense throughout the week. All fo the goings on with repairs, I hired a security firm to guard the house 24/7 and had to ok everyone coming and going, trying to get the police to take care of the situation, etc. etc. But I stayed sober and am so proud of myself.

I did also stay sober through a few nice moments where I formally would have been drinking- of course to excess. I took my sons to a fun party at a beach club. The theme was 50's California Beach BBQ. They had a huge grill going making ribs and hamburgers, corn on the cob and baked beans. Nothing like a real American can cook (hehe!) but it was good and fun. The music was great. Everyone was standing around, itching to dance but always waiting for someone to take the lead. I soberly and happily just went out there and started dancing! I often see posts here questioning "how will I ever dance/socialise/have fun sober?" Well, it is easy, you just get out there and dance! Once I started dancing people immediately joined me and the night was off! Mostly my boys played football with other kids or played in the sand, but I got them to come join me for a bit of dancing, my favorite activity. I was happy to be able to take care of them responsibly and get them home safely when it was time to drive home.

I also went to see Mary J Blige and Erykah Badu in concert. My friend and I who have been helping a small group of refugees from Nigeria decided that the women could use a night out so we got them tickets and all went to the show. We bought the tickets quite a while back so had great seats- 3rd row!!! They brought their babies with them. I was worried about their little ears, but it wasn't too loud and they are used to it. I went to one of the children's dedication ceremony at their church and the music there was very loud so I think they are used to it. They all loved the show. I really love seeing people's reaction to their first big concert, it was special to see their faces as the music played. I saw people going in and out for beers the whole time and felt happy that I didn't miss one bit of the music having to stand in a long line waiting for more alcohol. There was one very drunk girl roaming around acting pretty dumb and I thought "that could have been me, thank goodness it is not"
It was a great night for everyone and another event where I was so thankful for my sobriety.

Here I am with the darling little girl named Peace. I love her so. She spent most of the time flirting with the people in the rows behind us and dancing in my arms. Then she crashed and fell asleep despite the music!! So cute.

This week should be more calm with work, I sure hope so, I could use a break, but no matter what I will stay sober. I need some time for me to work on my 5th step. I have found a lovely online sponsor here from SR and have added working the steps of AA to my recovery plan. Her support and working the steps has been another push in the right direction.

My sons are on holiday with their father, so I can concentrate fully on work and myself. I plan on doing that AA work, gardening and laying in my hammock with some English language magazines that a group of guests left. Also on Tuesday I will take Peace and her mother and the other mother and her baby Wisdom to the beach. It will be their first time at the beach, I can't wait to see the faces of the little children when they touch the water!

Feeling so so happy this Sunday morning despite all the headaches of the past weeks. I have one and only one thing to thank for that- my sobriety.

Thank you!

I don't know if this will work or not, but I'll give it a try. I took a "Facebook live" video at the end of Mary's performance. She did her cover of U2's One, which I LOVE. Then she performed Family Affair- the song about "no more drama in our lives" Yes, NO MORE DRAMA. Anyway, without posting a link to my Facebook page, I think I managed to save it to an external site if you care to watch, it was thrilling to be there. Please excuse my horrible singing!
This is what sober fun looks like

Mera!! I LOVE love love your post.

And the pics- wonderful (not the first one but the others!). And AMEN to you being able to handle an awful situation with your guests, because you were sober. I remember last year when my fiancé's daughter made a cry for help by taking some of his pills, and he (and I) were incredibly grateful that he was sober to handle the situation.

You deserve the happiness and fulfillment that sobriety brings. Keep going!
