Alcoholism documentaries Hi there, Just wondering if anyone has watched any documentaries on alcoholism that shocked you . I recently watched the one made by HBO and the first girl that thought she had four or five drinks actually had 14! I find watching this kind of stuff helps with the recovery (just my opinion). Like I never wanna go back there. Any good documentaries to watch? Blessed be Staying strong, have a good weekend friends. X Charli |
I have a list I intend to watch but have only seen one: Rain in My Heart. I like to write notes on how each video or book affected me. The note on this one says," Wow, so sad, so powerful and devastating." |
I'm going to watch that tonight lynnmarie. Been meaning to for a while...... |
I've pasted the title of the documentary that hit me the hardest. It got me SERIOUSLY re-evaluating my "relationship" with alcohol. It is tough to watch in some parts, but its reality. Alcohol - Drugged High On Alcohol Full Documentary - Alcoholism |
Will give that a try Thomas, also looking for A royal hangover . Russel Brand . I watched rain in my heart very sad. Does anyone watch intervention to show? |
Not exactly a documentary, but i've been watching quite a few episodes of dr g, medical examiner where alcoholics are often on there. It really is an eye opener to see the countless ways that alcohol literally kills. In one episode she says to the extent "alcoholics keep morgues in business" which for sure hits home. |
Louis Theroux Drinking To Oblivion - 2016 |
So glad you posted this! I read all sorts of alcohol memoirs, but never thought to check out documentaries and I love docs. Going to check out these suggestions. Lynnmarie - I need that list of yours. :) |
Louis Theroux is a great recommendation. I actually need to watch some more I think (spread them out though, don't want to overload on misery) so I'll be checking some of these out. I watched quite a few drinking films that people seem to really like and never liked them, Smashed isn't bad I suppose, bit shakey at some points but the AA scenes in particular are pretty great. |

theres an amy winehouse documentary on axs tv that showed the sad side of alcoholism |
I did watch Rain in my Heart last night. Still a little in shock today. It was unflinching in the extreme and tough to watch. But watch it I did. So many haunting scenes as it cut from hope to horror to tragedy. If anyone needs a brutal reminder of end stage alcoholism this is it. Gob bless those who died may they find peace at last. |
YouTube has alot. Just gotta browse around. The alcohol "Intervention" episodes are allright too. ~Bunnez |
Lots of very powerful stuff in this thread: http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...mentaries.html |
How I overcame alcoholism | Claudia Christian | TEDxLondonBusinessSchool |
I should look it up in particular, cause I don't remember the title. On YouTube. In Britain, and they took a bus around testing people's livers. It shows how LITTLE you must drink to incur TERRIFIC RISK. I sent the link to a couple of young friends I have. We do not know we have drawn the unlucky biological straw until far too late. I'll find and post, but I'm sure it is listedd above. Rain in my Heart is very powerful, but many would say...well that is NOT me. |
I think this is it...Drugged:High on Alcohol... Check out this video on YouTube: https://youtu.be/mIEy0cv0Vjc |
There's a line in the Louis Theroux one from a detox nurse something along the lines of "the ultimate end of alcoholism is someone alone in a room with a bottle". I was watching the program alone in my house drunk. Safe to say it was pretty close to a moment of clarity. Think I got sober a few months later. |
Re-posting this link from SuperTired, because it profoundly outlined my personal experience fighting my alcoholism. It's a short TED talk that ends with the line: "The opposite of addiction is connection." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PY9DcIMGxMs |
