1 Year Sober- A long time but not long enough
My 1st One Year Sober b-day and hopefully the only one I have to have. I started journaling at the beginning of this recovery and was writing today and was so happy to be writing about 365 days w/ out alcohol, because at the beginning, WOW, time was soooo slow. I was anxious, fearful and could just crawl all over the walls... But I was determined to not take a drink. What the heck was that going to solve? In fact, it caused nothing but problems and I was tired of alcohol running my life. I am a young woman that has her whole life ahead of her and I was going to drink it all away. I have just taken it a day at a time, moment at a time. I got involved in AA because I didnt know what the hell i was doing and i figured someone there might. I have a couple of good friends now that i hang out with from the program. My relationship with God has grown and i spend time in prayer daily. I do see a counselor once a week that has transformed so much more for me. She has taught me how to stay sober but also the biggest thing is how to love myself and be true to myself. The first few months can be tough. I would repeat to myself this has to be better than continuing drinking. The pain of getting sober has to be better than the pain of staying drinking. I promise it does get better. Sure doesn't feel like it some days but I am proof it does. I hope just for today someone struggling can choose to stay sober. That is all you have to do. Literally. We can worry about tomorrow then.
Congratulations! One year is great! For me, I feel that my sobriety is (and always will be) something that I need to nurture and work on in order to develop the best version of myself.

I think this whole last year I have literally dedicated to sobriety. It is so important to nurture. I am going to keep doing what has worked for me!
