A.A. for beginners

Hey all,

I am hoping to attend my first A.A. meeting tomorrow but getting really frustrated trying to figure out how. I've been doing some research online. One website gave me the number to a book store, one wanted me to make an account, and another gave me locations that are in a different state or 4 hours from where I live.

Can anyone refer me to a website that is trustworthy and provides accurate information for a meeting near me?!

does this help?

Al-Anon Meeting Search

Once you find a meeting all you need to do is show up - no research or homework required ;-). There is most likely a phone number in the front section of your local phonebook that lists the number for the local chapter, and they probably have a website. Google "AA + your zip code" and you should be able to find one pretty handily.

good on ya,lady!
go here

Alcoholics Anonymous : Find Local A.A.

click on the state ya live in. then the city near you. it should redirect you to the local district webpage and havesomewhere on the front page a link like "meetings" to click on and find times and days of meetings.
no appointment necessary to attend a meeting.

you could also call the bookstore and ask. note, though, that AA bookstores are usually staffed by volunteers so there may not be someone there at the time.

p.s.
it would help us to help you a little better to know which state ya live in

a a . org (won't let me post a web link until I've made at least 15 posts.)

This website was exactly what I needed. I have a time set up to go tomorrow. Thank you for the info and looking out!

:You_Rock_

might be wise when ya get there to see iffen they have a copy of the big book you could purchase.
until then, id suggest takin a read of the big book online to get an understanding of what we do to recover from alcoholism and have a good life:

Alcoholics Anonymous : Alcoholics Anonymous

the first 164 pages explain how we do what we do.
after that is personal stories.

I hope you find a meeting that works for you.

I am really glad you are taking action.
Here is a link which explains what happens at your first AA meeting. Things might vary slightly but it is a pretty accurate overview

Thanks you guys!

I feel vulnerable and nervous. I'm going to attend the morning session so I start my day off with much needed ambition.

You'll be fine- and remember you can "just go" and not have to say a word. I listened for quite awhile before I spoke up.

Let us know how it goes!
