Never apologise for posting that you are struggling Lava, Weekenders exists because times like this can be hard.

Lava I notice that you start off by saying "how am I going to get through this day?" which implies that you are not enjoying life at the moment. I realise its not easy but perhaps you could make some changes to how you spend your time so as to include things that you like doing. Doing something I enjoy is a sure fire way to take my mind of of drinking and the evenings/night time is the worst for most of us.

Hi, Lava.

I enjoy SR.

Sometimes in my real life--not so much. I definitely drank to escape and muffle out stressful situations.

So when I realized that my substance as a human being was dwindling away to nothing because of the alcohol, I didn't hesitate to camp on SR day and night. It was my lifeline to sanity.

I learned practical techniques for resisting difficult temptations--plus I learned a lot of life wisdom from people who had walked the road before me.

Many of the stories here are fascinating.

I recommend that you come on here at your most vulnerable times, both to read and to let loose with a primal scream if you are at the end of your rope.

Often just a quick five minutes here would give me just the boost I needed to get through one more night.

Hang in there!

PS--my life is much better now because through the maturity of sobriety I have learned how to love better and build better.

I have seen pictures of Uganda, and it looks beautiful.

Well it looks like I'm safe for the night, Thank God for my husband because I was really weak, in fact I was practically begging to split a big bottle of wine with him. I knew today would be difficult, long weekend, birthday etc but I had no idea it would be that hard.. I guess I've been pretty melancholy all day and while at the grocery store I decided the only thing that would fix my mood would be wine. My husband stood strong, I literally started tearing up in the store. At that moment, I felt absolutely awful, I thought my day was ruined, that life wasn't fair. Anyways, we left the store and passed all the liquors stores so there was no chance of getting anything. Somehow something amazing happened about five minutes later, I felt ok, then somewhat good, then SO happy that I didn't buy anything. How in the world did I go through so many emotions in such a short amount of time? Anyways, I am almost home and safe for the night and I am so glad I am staying sober. :-) I hope everyone is having a happy, relaxing weekend!

Good work, Mandosca.

Lava, I haven't gone back to read your original post here, but the responses you got from people here...? yeah, that is why I keep coming back to Weekenders. The support is so honest and so real.

I am hanging on here, myself, until a reasonable bedtime. Sometimes, I call 6:00pm "reasonable"!! It is has been a difficult few days for me.

Gilmer...you nailed it..."So when I realized that my substance as a human being was dwindling away to nothing because of the alcohol, I didn't hesitate..."
I no longer hesitate to do whatever it takes!

I lost my update/edit!

I am IN...loved the opening pic/chuckle, Sao.

I am a Murican, living in the smack middle of Murica. I'm not crazy about where I live right now, too flat, but love New Mexico, California, Washington state, and Arkansas for the sheer beauty and variety of landscape, cultures, flora/fauna.

I would LOVE to visit and explore Canada, and I will some day.

It is a privilege to be in the good company of strugglers and overcomes here on SR, from all around the world.

I just engaged in a profound discussion with a Canadian on another thread about the superiority of poutine over all other foods! Google it!

Poutine...French fries, cheese and brown gravy? What's not to like, right? Where I am, that would be a cream gravy, which is also...um, just fine.

Argillaceous, I loved your account of the Colorado storm...I also looked up Petrichor Potpourri. Courtesy of website Storypick: "key ingredient that works in the mixture is the plant oil which is produced during arid periods. With air and rain, these compounds of oil are taken to the soil and rocks where they all mix together and emit the fragrance."

Well, I came on SR earlier this evening because I was having those ridiculous thoughts. "You're out of town, no one will get wind of it... just a couple...remember that bar near here?...that was a great place, wonder if it is still there...you can sleep in tomorrow...hey, what if we..."

With this crud running thru my mind, I've sat reading all over the newcomer SR posts, and now -- I think I am good. I really am going to bed now, even though it is a beautiful evening outside. I'm tired, it has been one of those days, and I am going to bed sober.

Catch you all tomorrow. Good luck everyone. Be strong. Being weak is optional, and it is not worth the consequences. (Even if you momentarily can't think of any consequences, trust me, they are real.)

This is my hardest time of the week. What I do in the next hour determines a lot.. it could determine being successful in school or not. I can go four days without alcohol and then I'll hit the bar that sells my 16 ouncer six packs. We all know how one thing leads to another leads to another. It's never just a couple beers just tonight. But this is the time that I am tempted and I cave in and I set things in motion.

I'm not doing it anymore.

BC, I sure relate to that frustration of knowing all my own tricks and yet ...there I go, anyway. I hope you take a new way home.

I did it, I went right instead of left and got home safe, and was even rewarded with my own personal technicolor lights show all the way home.

First, because I took that other road, which I avoid because it's so windy and dark, I was greeted by billions of lightning bugs, it was so pretty, I even cut my headlights (it wasn't pitch dark yet) for a moment to see them better lol

Second, there were several fireworks shows in progress as I drove home, a couple of which had launch points mere feet from the side of the road I was on, so that was neat, very loud, very bright and right above me.

Thirdly, flashing red, white and blues, police cars, likely pulling over drunk people, and I was just smiling that it wasn't me!

I saw fireworks when I got in to my car, on my way home, and when I got out of my car. And, what was cute, the song Fireflies came on the radio just as I pulled up outside my house.

~I get a thousand hugs from ten thousand lightning bugs, as they try to teach me how to dance~

Tee hee. I'm simple, I know.
