C,
I can relate to religious people and Judgement. I lived in the fishbowl of a Church family under a microscope for a long time.
IMO: God created musicians to write symphonies. God created farmers to nourish our bodies. God created doctors to help us when we suffer. He gave us all special, unique gifts.
As someone who has GAD & PTSD, I empathize with your feelings.
Do you think God would want you to hurt? The God of my understanding is a merciful, loving God who would never want that for any of us.
You can go directly to Him. Sometimes, even His very faithful flock go awry.
Sometimes people know not of what they speak. No doubt, that laying hands and speaking in tongues may produce results. But if in the interim, if God's busy working miracles elsewhere, I would put some faith into your doctor. The very one God created and made smart enough to graduate Med. school, to help you out. You are only obliged to answer to Him, not mere mortals.
Pray on it.
Gigantic hug,
Jules

Quitting the drink is going to increase the anxiety for first couple days. Do you have meds for that?
Yes, it's no fun to live like that. When people start throwing Scripture around I either get real quiet and them have it...or I ask if they are without sin? Probably best to just let them go off. It really annoys them. As I got older I learned that there is a big difference between Religion and being close to my God. Might be time to shop for a new therapist and Church. You have to feel comfortable. In the meantime, you ALWAYS have your relationship with Him. He's the only one who matters.
If all else fails say "ok Adam (or whoever) ive heard what you'd do...what do you purpose Jesus would do?" Usually gets them to wrap it up.
Give it to Him

I have been given beta blockers and lyrica, was just the religion thing messing it up.

Feels like a total everest that I have in front of me.

I can't even argue with them, they never admit that they are wrong lol I have come away from them now.

Hey chilled - there's absolutely no requirement for you to accept someone else's ideas about religion in order to get sober and stay that way

If things in your past are still scaring you or causing you resentment I hope you can let them go and move on

I hope, with your meds and staying sober, your anxiety will decrease over time

Sometimes sincere but over-zealous Christians go much too far by burdening people with restrictions that are not found anywhere in Scripture.

Scripture says that "There is therefore now NO CONDEMNATION for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and death." (Romans 8:1-2).

It also says, "Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers. EVERY GOOD GIFT and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights..." (James 1:17).

Scripture absolutely does not forbid people from using medicine.

Please be at peace and know that Jesus truly loves you no matter what you choose.

I pray that you have a deep and restful sleep.

When I was attending church for a while the Pastor once said to me. " The biggest problem with Christianity is Christians. "
I find this to be so true. Lots of judgement and condemnation.
Not for me thanks.

Keep fighting, Chilledice! I know you've been working on sobriety for years and that there are lots of things going on in your life. Although it's not always easy to see it when you're going through it, sobriety will help even when it doesn't seem like it. There's not a single problem you have that will improve by drinking. I realize you know this but it's easy to forget it.

I can appreciate your fear of being labeled or stigmatized but please don't let it keep you from getting the right kind of help. Just as it sometimes takes time to find the right approach to sobriety, it can take time to find the right doctor or therapist and the right approach to mental health. PTSD is serious but also very common, one of the most underdiagnosed and underappreciated problems in the world. There's no shame in admitting you're struggling, Chilledice.

Wow, you got some great advice here overnight! That's great!!!
Mental wellness is of supreme importance, try not to be fearful. Consider it as signing up for a gym. Except your going to get your mind in shape.
As someone very astutely said, which .going to butcher now bc I don't remember their exact wording, PTSD is no joke.
It is very common. In the US people with service animals are everywhere!
It's a breath of fresh air that mental illnesses are losing the stigma. Much like addiction. Wonderful bc people need help!

Take a deep breath and look at this as positively as you possibly can. You will be getting better and feeling better. What a relief. Alcohol only makes things worse. I was drinking to forget my problems and then alcohol became a bigger problem then all my original ones.
Take care of you!

Being scared it normal! It's hard to get outside your comfort zone, and scary to admit that you need help. But as you say, you can't keep going on the way you are now. Maybe it's time to let go and take that leap of faith, to try something new.
