Hi,
I've been recovering since 1987 'till last year. No real excuse for the relapse. I am retired and a caregiver for a 97 year old father and a bi-polar wife for 3 years. Also cared for my 90 year old mother 2 years before that until she died. I'm kind of stressed and overwhelmed lately and went back to the booze to self medicate. Funny thing is I'm a retired pastor and hospital and prison chaplain....and addiction counselor.

Welcome!

It does sound like you have a lot going on to care for your father and your wife. Are you able to get any help or care support so you can take regular breaks? I know you will find lots of support here.

Welcome Overalls

It's difficult for some of us to deal with life as it is - but we can absolutely change the way we react to things, or the things we use to cope .

Like Anna said - do you have support with the caregiving, or can you find some?

It's great to have you with us, Overalls. It really helped ease my anxiety to be here with those who understood. I hope you'll stay and keep posting - we care.

Welcome to the family. It's hard being a caregiver, I know. I hope you have, or can get, some relief. I hope our support can help you get sober again for good.
