I drank again I can't help it

I went all week worked out everyday read for an hour everyday worked 50 hours. I felt great . the weekend comes Saturday night I drank a 22 of Budweiser some jack and coke and another beer . Sunday night some crown royals and cokes. I feel guilty. I always give in doesn't sound like much but it really wears on me .it's a waste of money and a waste of time but I always give in !

Do you have any face to face support in place?

Ghostlight1 06-25-2017 10:17 PM

I always used to give in, too. But, with me, there was no telling when it would end.
It's good you realize you may have a problem now before you reach the lows I did. And I hope you don't.
Welcome aboard. You'll find a lot of support here.

I don;t really think there's anyone here who can;t help it...it's just a question of how much we're prepared to change?

maybe you need a plan str - and to post here a little more?
Thought about joining the Class of June thread?

I get where you're coming from. I think what helped me was being realistic about the fact that this isn't easy to do. Then, removing any excuses as being valid when trying to talk myself into it.

You can help it, you really can. It's just at times you have to be willing to do whatever it is that's necessary to get through the uncomfortable times. The more you do it the easier it gets.

Do you have a plan in place for when those times come?

Nonsensical 06-26-2017 05:25 AM

What will you do differently this coming weekend? Put a plan in place now to do something other than drink.

Mizzuno 06-26-2017 07:29 AM

You can help it. You have to want to change the cycle and use tools that will help you to be successful. What about posting on here before drinking?

CreativeThinker 06-26-2017 07:58 AM

Well...you know now that weekends will be the hardest for you to manage. Make a plan for next weekend and stick with it. There's no change without change.

As others have said, this isn't easy...but it's definitely doable...as long as you make recovery your #1 priority.

I thought life would be boring without drinking. Just the opposite. There is so much to do without drinking. When I drank, that was all I did. Make some plans that don't revolve around alcohol. See how that goes.

You can do it, and we're here for support. Make a plan for the weekend that will have you doing things you enjoy, but with alcohol out of the picture. You can do this!

For me continuing to do the same things and expecting something to change never worked, I needed to change things up, get a plan in place and slowly start to adjust my routines, the activities I got involved in and the people I hung out with!!

It can be done!! :)

I'm into the Secular Connections thread here on SR too... and someone recently posted that your "BEAST" is a quadriplegic. It has no arms and no legs so you can control it.

You can help it! :)
During the quiet time on weekends you will feel restless. Bored. Irritable. Resisting the call of the corner store or the bar will feel uncomfortable.
So know this.
The plan should have concrete tasks when these feelings arise.
I came here and vented/complained/whined/felt sorry for myself :) but I got thru the hours without drinking.
My plan also included watching psychological thrillers on netflix which had a plot I had to pay attention to/follow, and this also helped.
I also ate more sugar and frozen grapes.
Maybe these things can help you too! Or maybe face to face support groups.
You CAN do it.
After some sober time passes, your brain changes and it won't feel uncomfortable/unnatural to not drink. I promise.

It's probably that first drink coupled with your surroundings on Friday night.

Obviously, you CAN help it.

But what you need to do is establish a set of new habits and new thinking and new support to continue helping it.

What you need is to embrace real change in your life and embrace sobriety - and put in place the right ACTIONS to support your continued choice of sobriety.

You CAN help it. You know you can, because you have.....

Story of my life. I was there a hundred or more times. Then I had what is sometimes called a Moment of Clarity, and I knew that I wasn't going to get a whole lot more chances. Chances for a good, long life; my romantic relationship; and with my own dignity. I made up my mind almost nine months ago that I had had enough and it was now or never. And I've stuck with it. As can you. Heck, if I can do it, anyone can!
