Looking People in the Eye I just thought I'd share this with others early in recovery. I'm about 3 1/2 months into my recovery now and one thing that I have noticed recently is that I am finding it easier to look people in the eye. I didn't even recognise this as being an issue before - it is not as though I avoided eye contact, it's more that I found it uncomfortable. I know that it is because 2 causes of immense shame to me (alcohol and nicotine addiction) are finally being dealt with. It may be that others have noticed the same thing and it is one more reason to not drink today. |
It's a good feeling isn't it? :) D |
We can look the world in the eye is one of the AA promises. Sure beats looking you in the foot:) |
True for me too! I had even avoided looking myself in the mirror by the end of my drinking, as much as possible. Now, clarity and confidence in my sobriety make it normal to look people in the eye! |
Thanks! Yes, I've noticed this too, it is a good feeling. |
Very true !! I actually enjoy having conversations with strangers now ! Used to worry what people must think of me or knew my secret - definitely a plus ! |
