RIP Waffles, you cared for him for 10 years and he was only ill for a brief time.

You are so right about numbing yourself with drinking, in the end it just prevents you from healing.

It's never easy letting go of our furry companions, but there comes a time when it's the right thing to do.

One of the most difficult things for me to do in sobriety is to sit with uncomfortable emotions.
My mother fell some months back, and we spent a good portion of the day in the ER.
She turned out to be fine.
I was a wreck.
I never wanted a drink so much as I did that night.

I am so sorry to hear that! I feel your pain.

I had my first cat when I was ten and she was killed by a car. This was a true shock because it came totally out of the blue. It took me a long time to get over it. The second cat we had to put down after 15 years because of cancer. This was very painful but in the end also a reliefe to see the suffering ending.

It is incredibly painful when we have to say goodbye to our beloved pet and it will take a lot of time to get over it (if we ever get over it). Even if they are not there anymore, they will always be in our hearts and our memories.

Big hug and take care! <3

Aw Lady, I understand the pain of losing a friend like that. Cats bring us so much joy, the idea of losing them is nothing short of heartbreaking. I've watched pets cross over the rainbow bridge and it never gets easier.

Here's to Waffles - and your self reflection and sobriety!!!

Lady, I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved cat. I have fur kids too and have had to make the hard decision too many times. Altho it's horribly painful to let them go, it's so much better than watching them suffer. You did the loving thing.

Hi LadyBlue,

I'm so sorry you had to say goodbye to Waffles yesterday. I have had to say goodbye to two of my cats, and it is extremely difficult. I was sober when we said goodbye to our Snowy this past year. It is such a difficult decision, but you made the one that took away his pain, although it caused more pain for you.

Sending lots of love and hugs your way.

❤️Delilah

LB, I am so sorry. I am a pet lover too and have had to make the same decisions. It is so hard, but you did the right thing. With the immense pain of losing a pet, is a reminder of just how much joy and love they've brought into our lives. Gentle hugs girlie.
