Overwhelmed

Trying to read these threads and identifying with others is a bit of relief but also overwhelming. Started going to AA meetings this month but still struggling. I feel like I'm letting everyone down, including myself.

Welcome.
This could be the beginning of a "not-disappointing" existence.
Glad you are here.

Keep it simple and try not to become overwhelmed. Just don't drink today. The rest will come in time.

Welcome to SR. Stay engaged, reach out for support, take action. All of those things will help you stay sober. You can stop letting yourself down starting today and you'll feel better too.

Welcome to SR! These forums can be a bit overwhelming but are also a great place to get support and help others who are newly sober. I highly suggest joining the Class of June 2017 thread found on this same forum. Good way to get to know others here.

Welcome Hello. It's so good to have you with us.

I think most of us feel overwhelmed when we first make the decision to quit. Drinking has been a way of life for so long. It's scary to let go - but also to continue on the way we were. When you get some sober time behind you, things will begin to make more sense and the anxiety should lessen.

Do not worry about others- just you. Keep doing meetings- that is good, you are not letting yourself down.

Welcome aboard Hello76

The great part about SR is that everyone understands what you're going through

if you have any questions or are confused about how the place works just ask

D

I'm studying your words. Processing. So amazed my fellows have such wisdom! I really, really, really, really don't want to be an alcoholic but feel like I have found my people who understand.

Welcome to the forum, Hello. I too felt overwhelmed at first, but once you break the ice it gets easier. Keep posting.

I'm trying to read the friends and family stuff so I understand what my husband is going through but it's triggering because then I just realize how much I suck at life 😔

Hi Hello76,

I'm not sure how helpful reading the F&F forum will be to you right now; it sounds like you're a little fragile and down on yourself atm and beating yourself up about the impact on significant others is unlikely to be serving you. Looking ahead at your goals and dreams for a sober future may be more helpful to start with 💜

Wishing you well on your recovery journey x
