I will be working all weekend, but will still have time to work on projects at home and do some things I enjoy as well, since my time isn't being wasted with booze anymore! Been doing some organizing at home, watching the original Prison Break series, studying Spanish, reading fun books, working on a garden. Life is good.

Welcome to Weekenders Red78 glad you're joining us.

We have had a slightly bewildering General Election in the UK so perhaps this track is fitting.

Warning. Although there is no drinking in the vid some cans are in hands (I'm guessing it's not fruit juice in them) and there is some egregious cigarette smoking.

Counting hours/quarter hours/half hours until I can get the heck out of the office.

Vroom, vroom at Le Mans, Sao. Enjoy the trip. Your annual pilgrimage to watch the race and cars. How many years have you been going? It's a nice tradition to have.

Glad you didn't crumble Tynesider. I always found that distractions on Fridays worked to get me through, along with a lot of ice cream. Anything was better than another lost and wasted weekend.

I hope you have escaped the office Ruby.

My first Le Mans was 1995 and I went a few times intermittently after between then and 2007. I was married then and only went long enough for the race and the journey there and back. I started going regularly in 2008 and we would spend more time over there but the years before I quit drinking are a blur. This will be my third sober Le Mans.

No Crazy Golf tonight, the queues were too long so we went ten pin bowling instead. Good fun.

This struggle is relentless and I have struggled this week, in particular yesterday evening when I had a very hard time. I emerged from the hairdressers and I had decided that I was going to go to a bar for a couple of glasses of wine but I somehow managed not to. I bought four books (yes four!) and I went for a burger and fries instead. I then lugged my purchases home, bypassing all of the shops along the way and I spent the night reading and eating chocolate. I suppose four books is better than four bottles of wine.

Anyway I walked to work this morning after buying a takeaway coffee and I passed by a man who looked quite unkempt. It was only when he came closer that I realised he was swigging from a large plastic bottle of cider. This was at about 9:15 AM. I smiled at him as he passed by and all I could think of was there but for the grace of God go I. That really could be me. I go home at times craving a glass of wine but I have never woken up wishing I had drank the night before. I know that I would never stop at one glass either.

Like I said this is relentless and there are so many of us out there and we are all in this together.

I do wish I had more friends. I feel quite lonely at time. I wouldn't particularly say I am isolating myself or that I am depressed. It is just that I do not have many friends and the ones I do have seem to be busy. One is away on a trip, the other is working and what have you.

At least I have my job I suppose. Some days I like it and other days are so incredibly frustrating. I called my father this morning on my break and my mother answered. She actually asked 'why do you sound so happy?" I just told her because the sun is shining, I am on my break and looking forward to a nice coffee. I note a tone of suspicion in her voice whenever I sound even a little bit upbeat. (Or maybe it is my conscience.) My dad told me later that she was pleased I sounded so jolly.

Anyway I have gone to the wilderness for the weekend and I wish you all a good night.

Sao, here I am, "stuck" in Hawaii for three weeks for work, yet I would gladly trade places with you if I could go to LeMans.

LeMans is a bucket list thing for me. I'm not even as current as I should be on the LMP-type cars since Audi seemed to lap the whole field for seemingly most of the 2000s. Regardless, it would involve three things I love: Camping, cars, and motorsports. Unfortunately for me, it would also involve a trip to Europe from the (almost) west coast of the US, with the associated commitment of time and funds. Plus most of my friends with the means to travel abroad with me are, sadly, not really into cars/racing :-( And while I can "get around" in German or Spanish, I don't speak a lick of French.

I know the nighttime is infamous for drunken debauchery, which may be equally entertaining as a spectator. Regardless...getting to hear those cars shriek down the Mulsanne Straight at night is a dream of mine.

Next day apologies and agony because I can't comprehend who am I.

Struggling still going to aa getting drunk and problems with my husband. He the one I love will leave again. Why alcohol has this hold on me I will lose everything.

Good to see you Soberandhealthy, that is one of the biggest lies that alcohol tells us, that it will make the drinker liked and popular when in reality it is just a depressant which can cause to say things we would never say or even think when sober. Regretting the things we said when drunk is one more thing you don't have to worry about.

I hope you get to go to Le Mans one day DesertDawg. We stay about 20 miles outside the town itself which helps keeps the costs down. One thing you would not have to worry about is not speaking French, 200,000 brits make the trip evey year and most of the local population can speak english, partly as a result. I am glad that Audi is not having it all their own way. There certainly is a lot of drinking taking place and my friends do drink themselves but fortunately not to the extent that I did. So far I have not had to absent myself from anything because there was drinking taking place.

SoberTDragon, I wondered if anyone would ask, that is me in wig and makeup outside my sisters house prior to a fancy dress party last Halloween
