Just wanted to say, I can really relate to the OP here. While I've only been drinking for a few years, I always felt like it helped me come out of my shell and be so much more social. I'm in a profession where that is a must, and I felt like it helped.

I also relate to those moments right before I quit, deciding there wasn't going to be moderation...just strong drinks and a lot of them until I could pass out for half a day/12 hours. Thanks for sharing this post. Will give myself tons of self respect this weekend.

Nice post saoutchik. That behavior is something I also succumbed to. So I'm in for a sober weekend, have a great weekend everyone.

I went to the salon and got my hair dyed again, because you know red heads have more fun. Now my mother will spend the whole weekend telling me how awful it is and how much she hates it. I have finally reached a rebellious stage at the grand old age of 36.

Hmmm I got the strangest phone call at work today. I have booked a patient in for a tonsillectomy and she wanted to ask some questions. I said "fine". She asked how long is the recovery time as she was told by someone that she would have to rest for a long time and she wouldn't even be able to change her child's nappy (diaper)! I was tempted to say they will be taking out your tonsils not amputating your arms but I just said recovery time is about 10 days and you just have to be careful of a post tonsillectomy bleed.

I can't wait for the weekend.

Yeah, weird. It's a minor surgery, pain may not even require a narcotic at all.

I know women who go back to work the day after a vaginal delivery.

Welcome to the thread TamraMaew!

The worst thing about not respecting yourself is the price you pay, biological, spiritual and finacial. It is like paying money a spa hotel and asking them to poison you, beat you up and hurl abuse at you while they do it.

I can relate ~ I'm normally "one of the quiet ones" and it's always taken me a good buzz to start to open up ~ then you can't shut me up! I've been taking drum lessons & my instructor keeps saying how he has more confidence in me than I do. People have been saying that all my life.....now I need to have the confidence without the liquid courage.

Thanks guys ~ I am in for the weekend!

Thank you, Sao, for another Weekender opening that gives us plenty to reflect upon.

I cannot remember who it was, but someone on SR once said that addicts/alcoholics can do a smear campaign on themselves like no one else. That has stuck with me.

If you're new, please know that this is a process. Things take time. But you'll find pride in each milestone.

The growth that sobriety and recovery have afforded me is something I find hard to describe but I know it is rooted in regaining self-respect. It feels good. It's so nice to see new people here every day who are choosing a new life.

What sorts of activities are you folks planning for the weekend? I've got a list of fun things to do now that I won't be drinking all day - I even bought two packs of glow-in-the-dark stars and will put them all over my bedroom ceiling, though I'm sleeping so well now I won't have much time to enjoy them each night. Happy Friday, all!

All I could do for the first couple of months, Lascaux, was sleep. I didn't fight it, I gave in and enjoyed every minute. It was (and still is) so great to simply sleep thru the night. When drinking, my sleep was always interrupted. It was never a real sleep, the routine was always; drink, pass out, come too a few hours later, stumble to the bathroom, flop back into bed then toss and turn for the rest of the night. I Don't know how I survived....

I am on leave next week and will be headed to Le Mans in France for the 24 hour race. Friday lunchtime here so it is getting close, the anticipation as as enjoyable as the actual holiday.
