Arms going numb with burning sensation
A few months back while getting into my car, my arms went numb and I could not operate the vehicle. It took a few minutes before I could drive.
This morning the same situation happened but I was half asleep. Its almost like I am paralyzed while my arms are burning. It took a few minutes for it to subside. I woke up my husband and asked him to help me to pull my arms straight as my hands were turning in on themselves. I am still slightly numb as I type.
I have had a back injury for 10 years now. Doctors have given me the run around. I am in chronic pain but its something that I have adjusted to. Running and other activities get tabled until I start to feel slightly better and then I can jog for a while. Its a cycle of activity to no activity.
When I went to the doctor a few months back, I was dismissed by her. I told her of my chronic back problem and all of the appointments, nerve ablations, shots, drugs that were prescribed and PT that I went through. I told her of the protrusion (and what I could remember of my appointments) and she said most people have this problem. Its not abnormal. She said " You dont want to go through X-rays and MRI's do you? You dont want that radiation do you? Go to PT" ......
I am currently not on any meds and would prefer to keep it that way.
I am not one to go to the doctor for drugs. I dont want drugs. I want to know what is actually wrong with my body.
There is something that is seriously wrong.
So, this doesnt involve alcohol but and I dont know why I am sharing it but I am nervous. The burning unable to use my hands and arms is very very alarming.
Im on the hunt today for a different doctor.

Nerves in your neck are connected with arm issues. I am not a dr. and I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night but I had neck problems and MRI didn't really show the problem. Dye in my spine with CTscan did. I wish you well.
Oh my, Mizzuno. I'm so sorry. That does sound scary. I, too, would want more answers! Your doctor's casual response seems crazy to me.
A neurologist seems like a good next step ... maybe a nerve conduction test, to see what's going on?
Please let us know what you find out!

Chiropractic work has been recommended by close friends. I am so scared of the adjustment, the cracking or manipulation of my back that I have not gone. I tend to be over protective of my lower back in movement and with everthing that i do due to the pain that I am in daily. The idea of someone cracking it or pushing it makes me want to scream inside. I dont want to be in any more pain than I already experience.
I forgot to mention that when I went to the doctor I wanted a referral to a back specialist.
Ill bite the bullet here and ask one of my customers if they will see me. He is a chiropractor and has suggested I set an appointment. I dont think he could damage me anymore. Ive been really scared of the adjustments or whatever it is.
I have these images in my head that a chiropractor rips and pulls and yanks and does all this crazy stuff..... like putting someone on stretching device and pulling your limbs a part. ....... Yeah, my imagination can get away with me

So, here I go again down the referral wormhole. Doctors are so scarce here.
The sensation is still here and it is frightening. Im not going to get all worked up over it though. Keep it in perspective. Stay off Dr. Google and get to a neurologist.
A neurologist is the one who told me never to have a neck adjustment. My issues originate in my neck.
I think that the medical profession is more open to alternative kinds of medicine these days under certain situations. It would be wise, I think, to find out if your condition falls into one of those situations.

I can imagine how frustrating it is when your dr is completely dismissive of your pain and questions. It's definitely time to find a new dr. I can understand your reluctance to see a chiropractor. I wonder if you've considered acupuncture. I have a friend who swears by it. As someone who got the dismissive runaround for migraines, I ended up demanding to see a neurologist and that was the answer for me.
I would also recommend a neurologist as the first specialty to visit to get an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan. Burning, numbness, tingling and pins-and-needles down both arms are classic symptoms of cervical spine radiculopathy. There might be other causes of course but a neurologist would be the one to tell you what you are actually dealing with. Thankfully medicine has advanced so much that there are many treatment modalities available nowadays. I deal with this every day in my job ... usually effective treatment does not involve chiropractic manipulation so hopefully you will find a course of care that works for you. Good luck and hope everything turns out for the best!

I had a 'weird' medical issue a little while back and went first the DR google route, turned out to be true to what I was thinking , not the point.
In all the searchings and what not , one of the things that came up (from a forum), had to do with the state of today's medical allocations and what not a la specialists. If you can't get a referral you want/need if you present yourself to a large hospital/university/medical center ER , you can get into a specialist more easily. Just a thought.
wish you well

I agree with SoberLeigh. Don't want to frighten you Miz but there are great chiropractors and not so great. I've seen them both and I have back problems today. Not saying it's because of one of the chiropractors that I've seen in the past...I just know that I will never see one again unless I am 100% sure they are on top of their game.
I can't believe that doctor said what you are experiencing is not abnormal...that just doesn't sound right. And then to plant the seed in your mind about the radiation from tests. Yes, go to a different Dr. ...good luck. I hope you get some help for your condition.
