Struggling Like Never Before

I think I am at the point where I must leave my alcoholic husband. I don't want to - but I think it would probably be worse to stay much longer. But I know it is going to be hard leaving - and hard for a very long time. Why must it hurt so much whatever way I choose?

I'm sorry things are so difficult. Alcohol is a thief who will steal everything. It is also an illness that requires treatment. If it isn't treated it generally gets worse. I truly am sorry.

Thank you.
If only I knew how to convince him that there is a problem/illness in the first place. If he could see that I would gladly support any treatment. And I probably wouldn't be here at this stupid time of the night clutching at straws when deep down I know I have to leave him because he will probably never admit he has a problem. He will probably die rather than admit he has a problem and accept help.

Hi, Marie. Sorry for your pain and trouble.
Sometimes we just get to the "enough!" moment.
We realize that the alcoholic in our life is just not capable at this moment to do the one thing we ask of him/her, and that is to stop drinking.
That is also when we realize that if things are to change, we have to be the one to change them
Good luck. Time and distance will bring clarity.
