Hi all! I am trying this again for the last time. I will not give in this time as I have dealt with the AV's too many times now and should know them all! I have been an alcoholic since my first drink at 15-a very functional one but once I have that first one it's 0 to 60 fast! No stopping. I am now 66 and just retired last year and hubby and I got a fifth wheel and have been traveling the US--good life!!!! Have quit many times thru the years only to pick up again at some point. Wanted to believe retirement meant having a glass or two of wine at night -but reality is -I can't have just one. So I want to commit myself to something where I can hold myself accountable. I have 5 days right now and feel pretty good.. I have stomach issues which of course alcohol makes worse and also stage 3 kidney disease. I will hopefully be posting often to here-visiting family this week and don't want to get off track. Thanks for listening.
Welcome, welcome, Notanewbie
You will find an amazing amount of support and wisdom here at SR. I am 58 yrs old and am thrilled to finally get sober.
I know what you mean, this is it for me, last time 'cause I ain't never going back
I hope to see you around

Hey there Notanewbie - congrats on your 5 sober days.
Finally admitting there could never be just one took me decades. I played with my life & health trying to use willpower to control my consumption. Coming to SR made everything so clear. We all understand what you're going through - I hope you'll keep reading & posting. Welcome!

yes, NAN, i wanted to believe that retirement would have a glass of wine or two or a beer here and there.....i wanted to believe a whole bunch of things.
luckily, reality hit me one day and what i wanted to believe turned out to be irrelevant.
sober retirement is rich
congratulations on five days and ahowing up. keep showing up and staying on track, look around, see the various ways folks are doing this and know it's doable.
