I'm in too!
I've got 27 days which might not seem like much but it's uncharted waters for me. I've never been sober without the drink somewhere in my near future. Even when I swore I'd never touch another drop. Even when I genuinely believed that.

I'm in! I agree, so glad you quit when you did, Sao. I haven't had a 'rock bottom' alcoholic moment, but have seen a gradual decline in all aspects of my life, including the way I was interacting with my young children. It's a slippery slope though and I've been feeling like it could get to the point where I'm drinking all day, neglecting my kids and possibly putting them or myself in danger. Glad to make the change sooner rather than later.

Welcome to Weekenders Erratic!

Good to see you DarkAsylum.

Congratulations on 12 Years (almost) Olive, that is genuinely awesome and I try not to use that word. I think that makes you the Soberistist Weekender!

No worries Purpirks, you are right, not drinking is at least like having a part time job in terms of the extra income.

time2shineagain my rock bottom was pretty awful but the sad thing was that I could see a much worse one involving joblessness and eventual homelessness being a few months away, plus losing contact with my family. The choice was easy but the execution of staying sober was hard in the early days so things like SR were a great help.

Purple, I am a big over-analyzer myself, but it's not the case here.

Early sobriety does feel like an another job, and there is nothing wrong with it - it requires planning, efforts, and other elements of any other activity which is worth to be executed.

Keep it on!

I'm in!

Definitely am needing to get back close to SR as have been slipping due to pain issues. Sao, that was a wonderful opener. Quitting is hard, but I do keep coming back here, and SR has helped me be sober more days in the past few months than I have been for the past few decades. Thanks everyone who takes time to moderate and post daily, and also those who share their stories. It really does help me in these very early days of sobriety.

Welcome to Weekenders Daveman! Having a something to do that occupies your mind is great for defeating cravings. On a more general level if you have things to to at the weekend that also reduces the amount of idle time you have to think about drinking. In the long tern we do need to relax but staying active really helps in early recovery when the AV is at its worst.

Hi guys - dropping in for a quick hello - thanks for the intro Sao and trust you are keeping well.

If I ever need a reality check i just return myself to where i ended that last day of drinking and the feeling I was about to lose everything most of all my mind - face smashed up with absolutely no recollection of how or why - in a foreign country with strict laws regarding alcohol - refused treatment due to how drunk I was - needing to board a flight and wondering if i would get home - what awaited me ? it had gone far too far and I was a complete mess - panic attacks and the worst feelings i have ever known on that flight home from Dubai - stewardesses asking if i was ok and keeping their eye on me as i was in such a state of sheer panic and the horrors.

I knew it was the end just didn't know how much of it was out of control and out of my hands - knew i needed help and reached out for it, also found SR which literally saved me from myself, it was this place that helped me realise there was a life to be had without drink and drugs and it was possible as long as I stuck at it no matter what - always been an all or nothing person - that was it - I needed help to sort it out and lots of it but this place was and always will be where i got the real help i needed in those early days especially and for the first year - 18 months now and things are going well, best thing is home life with my wife and daughter - it is settled and the girl I put thro so much over so many years is again my best friend - more than I ever deserved for what i had put her thro but proof that people really can turn their lives around if you want it enough.

Life is oh so much better nowadays, yes there are ups and downs of course but that is life hey but I'm not constantly out of control anymore and i can deal with things much better and much more rationally - with time things have become much clearer and the mind has definitely settled. Not missing out anymore - I'm enjoying life on life's terms.

Hi guys. It's been a while since my last post here. I've been very hesitant to come back plus have had a lot of stresses lately. It seems to be getting better so i'm hopeful.

Thanks for the kind messages when my mum died. We gave her a good send off and proceeded to get back to our normal lives but it's definitely not the same.

Unfortunately, I did go back to drinking during that time, not so much out of depression or sadness or grief but because of the atmosphere I was around (lots of family and friends and late nights).

I woke up this morning tired of feeling sick and tired. So i'm in for the weekend. Thanks everyone and Thanks Sao.

Lately it's been a turning point for the better (knock wood) ~ I've been spending some sober time with me.....and realizing I can still be crazy without having to depend on liquid courage! Happy Friday!!!

Hi Lava! happy to see to here.

OK, so how this for a drinking dream. I'm not making this up.

Sao, you were my waiter at a restaurant I was all by myself. I knew who you were, but you didn't know who I was. I wanted to introduce myself but you were telling me about all the different types of beer the restaurant had. So the debate in my head was to have a drink or introduce myself. I caved and ordered a beer, (you made them sound so good), but while you were getting it, I fretted if I should actually drink it or not. About how long I'd been sober, all my new friends here at SR, does just one count? I don't know how it ended 'cause my dream switched gears. Weird hu?
