Memorial Day!

What a difference a couple years makes. Two years ago today was a day to load up. A couple 1.75's of booze, case of beer, a few 10lb bags of ice and a bunch of steaks and brats. Non stop party starting at noon and wouldn't end until Sunday night. What could possibly be more fun that that? Well it was 2 years ago yesterday that I was drunk and fell and temporarily ruined my life. Not just my health, but my life. I was in a hospital bed for 11 days, surgery on both legs, and my landscaping business was in full swing....but not for long. Because I had to dedicate almost a full year to walking again, my beloved business had to be sold.

Today there will be no "loading up" at the liquor store or any other nonsense. We will grill some great food and spend some quality time around the house. We have decided to sell our home so there is plenty of work to do. And you know what? I don't mind doing the work because I'm not hungover or drunk while doing it! Life is very different than two years ago, but its different in a much better way. I feel more connected to life. I feel more true to myself. I feel like I have something to offer society, not take from society. How things will end up, I do not know, but I am enjoying the journey.

Its a long story, but it was 2 years ago yesterday that I started my journey of sobriety. I wasn't successful immediately, but I have now been sober for about 19-20 months. I don't count days.

As someone who just sold a house and bought a new one, it's really a great feeling to be in a house in which I have never, ever drunk alcohol. No cringe worthy memories. Fresh slate, clean start. I hope you will get enjoy that feeling soon!! Good luck on the sale.
Congrats on 20 months.

Jeff, I remember when that happened to you.

So very proud of the recovery you have made in so very many aspects of your life.

You are inspiration.

Yes it has Dee, I don't necessarily recommend the path I took, but I guess its where we end up that matters. Thanks for being there every step of the way.
