Blah....woke up sick as hell this morning! Actually feels like a hangover/withdraws. I took some OTC cold meds and now I'm all jittery,hot/cold sweats,no appetite, ect! Not that I was going to be tempted to drink but, now I'm stuck at home, while my friends enjoy their pool party/cookout. I was really looking forward to some grilled food that I didn't have to make or clean up after. It is a reminder that I never want to go through withdraws ever again though! After almost 7 mnths you kind of forget what it can be like. Or...maybe it's the universe reminding me?

Hope you feel better, DR

I found out today that I'm off Monday......I have two jobs (that I am extremely thankful for) ~ I like to be busy 7 days a week to keep myself out of trouble. My weekend job normally includes holidays, but they're business as usual for this holiday so I'm not on the schedule. I'll need to stick close by ~ my mind usually switches into party mode when I know a day off is coming up. Thanks everyone for listening.....I'm so glad to be here!

Nice one Purpirks. That is, in essence why the Weekender thread exists.

So I am the proud owner of a new i-phone. I actually never had one before because I didn't want to be like one of THOSE people - and I managed just fine. (See picture below.) I wish I had stuck with my trusty Samsung Galaxy as I can't get the hang of this at all. I've only had it less than 24 hours and I feel like I need an honours degree in Computer Science to get the hang of all these "apps" and usually I'm not bad with "gadgets" and computer stuff. I know I sound like an old lady but trying to pick a user ID was incredibly frustrating. Someone already has the name "50bunnies" - who woulda thought?
Oh well. I'm about to tuck into this cupcake. Might as well have high cholesterol to go with my stress levels.

Unfortunately I live in the stone age at the moment and I do not have access to the internet in my house right now - so I need a good phone otherwise I could not log on to SR.

When I arrive back in civilsation and get a better place I will have everything nice and new and shiny

If I may interject...

*Ring Ring*

What does it mean? In the words of Mecanix...

“The first bell is the bell of mindfulness, calling to me and you.

It says stop what am i doing right now, take some breaths, feel my body, am I holding it tight and tense? Relax… calm down… life is a journey and not a destination, make the journey as glorious as possible.

The second bell is the freedom bell and I'm ringing it for you to let you know freedom from drink and drugs is available to you, come and hear us calling out to you.”

I got my SMART phone 2 weeks ago. My old little brick 9I love that brick) was not going to work out for me...in the recovery stuff I do- the next unit I get has no free wifi- so to do SR - I needed something better to use as a 'hotspot' or something like that. I had to get help just to answer the damned contraption spat out from hell's bowels. Not 'touch' the screen, but 'touch at a certain pressure' then swipe- but only in I direction, or it will ignore, hangup, go to a message (still working that one out)- and lord forbid if I turn it upside down.
Mind it has not said 'this is highly irregular, Dave' to me yet (2001- HAL).

Steve Jobs is one of my heroes yes the guy was reportedly an ******* but I indentify so much with him. He was rejected so many times and he came on top. Me always rejected and never on top.

He said if you want to be the best at work you had to love what you do. I like him immensely his Stanford university commence speak it was amazing inspiration and beautiful.

Anyways I went to my first AA meeting today I don't like it but I will go back I want to get well.

By the way my whole rambling about Steve was because of treta iPhone Tetra it's a mini computer it's the best. Love to all specially Dee thank you man for all your help.

It is now 28/05/17. I started my job on 28/05/16 so I have been there for one year and I have managed not to do anything stupid. It can be stressful but I don't hate it and I do not dread going to work every day.

I am at my parents house now. I found an old journal of mine from 2014 and I spent some time reading it last night. Wow, things have really changed for me and I am in a much better place today.

I managed to get by with a flip phone up until about 2 years ago. My wife and daughter both have Iphones and would text me which is immensely frustrating on a flip phone. I carry a company phone so don't have one of my own. Then they started getting us smart phones, but they were blackberries. I met a guy on a flight once who asked me 'You have a blackberry?'. Yes, I said, it's a company phone. Then he shows me his blackberry and says 'Mine too! I thought I was the only one forced to carry a blackberry.'. Actually, it's not all that bad. I just can't use it for anything cool.

I made the jump over to an iPhone several years ago, and I do like a lot of the things I can do with it. However I sometimes find myself flummoxed briefly when I need to use it to, you know, make a PHONE CALL. Sometimes I do long for a plain simple flip phone that just makes and receives calls. That ship has already sailed though....my employer provides the entire work force (including me) with iPhones and mine mostly sits in my bag, sometimes draining its battery. I only use it to check work e-mail when I don't have access to my work computer, which is not often. I get a nasty-gram from work once in a while saying basically "Your phone hasn't been active in over 30 days, is it still in your possession?"

It's not true you're out of options. This isn't a one and done deal SAH.

It took me a lot of work and concerted effort to get sober and stay that way.
I had to build up a support network and use it.

I had to make a plan to deal with the things I drank over without drinking.

I had to be prepared to make different choices.

I believe you can do it, SAH, cos I did it.

If you're feeling low - please consider calling one of these numbers or read some of the links
