Two Years Today
Two Years Today
Thought I’d post on the 2nd anniversary of my last drink.
I won’t talk here about how and why I quit, think if you click on my name you can find a list of threads I’ve started which has that info. What I do want to say is that my life is so, so much better now. I am not the same person that I was two years ago. I can’t begin to list all the wonderful things that have happened in my life since then.
One thing I haven’t done since quitting is miss alcohol at all. My only regret remains that I didn’t do this decades ago.
One thing I’ve done is gone back to University to train to become a counsellor, and as part of that I’m volunteering at an addiction service, working with friends and family. It’s tough at times, and I’ve cried over some of the stories I’ve heard. But it’s easily the most rewarding thing I’ve done in my life.
Why am I writing this? I guess I just want to show that the life you’re living right now doesn’t need to be the life you will always live. We all have choices. It isn’t easy, and some of you will have much harder roads to travel than I did. I got off the elevator when I could see where it was going, not when it reached the bottom. But if you want it enough, you can choose a new and much better life. I did. And I’m very, very glad I did.

Congratulations OpenTuning and thank you for such an inspirational post. It's posts like this that really help me on the tough days. I think you will be an awesome counsellor and it's brilliant that you can draw on your experience of addiction to help addicts now and in the future. Well done
Wow! What a difference two years makes. Congratulations, Open Tuning.
It's really good to see you. I've always thought you bring a keen insight into the world of recovery. The people you serve will benefit from that wisdom much the way we have.
Thank you for that, and all the best to you as the next year gets underway.
