Hey guys
I've been reading up on the AVRT rational recovery model today and a lot of it seems to be resonating with me.
I'm on day 1, those who have followed know I've had quite a few of these recently but I'm determined to nail this once and for all.
I just wanted to ask whether anyone uses RR and if they have been successful with the approach?
It's just after 8pm here, winding down to bed

Welcome back...
RR really made sense to me also....until my addictive voice became stronger than my own.
We have to be willing to go through the uncomfortable feelings and urges each day. The more we say "NO" to the voice, the easier it becomes. I too have had many Day 1's, but I know how good it feels to be sober, and after a few months, days can go by without even thinking about a drink.
You gotta go through hell, to get to heaven.

This is really good news!

Thanks guys!!
Just read fresh starts thread and it's an excellent read and makes a lot of sense around the making of the big plan essentially being you drawing a line in the sand
Any thought or feeling about drinking / using drugs is the AV / beast talking and is to re labelled as IT wants / IT needs. This is not me in my rational self. This is IT the beast with no arms / legs, no way of obtaining its "fix" without me getting it for IT
It's simplified things for me today, and I'm sat here just about to go to bed wondering why I didn't look further into RR in the first place

Get to bed and sleep well
Yeah... Thats cool! I looked seriously into RR several months after I quit. Just as a way to strengthsn my quit. Man... I really wish I had done that earlier!
RR helped me overcome regret and other issues I was carrying as a result of hitting bottom.
When I quit, I used just about every tool I could find. Like playing it forward, or treating the beast as a monster it is, and many more. Come to find out, the stuff that resonated and worked for me, was mostly RR stuff.
Most definitely a solid program. Plus, you pick up tools you can use for the rest of your life! It teaches you HEALTHY ways to deal with stress, anger, regret, etc.
Go for it. Go all in and don't look back!

I found a few simple ideas from AVRT very helpful during the first couple of months when my addiction was seriously angry at me quitting.
It took me years and years and years to recognize/ admit just how addicted I was (am) to alcohol. I really helped me to think of all those thoughts of drinking as psychological effects of being addicted (which is what they are). From there, it is much easier to say "That's my AV speaking not me."
When I finally got this, I actually almost enjoyed facing the addiction. When it starts kicking up a fuss and trying to get you to drink that is a sign that you are getting better.
