Two Months
GOOD MORNING, SR!
Well, its been two months since I have had any alcohol in my life.
Yesterday, I was able to talk about my drinking with clarity and complete honesty. I was talking to a friend and she has multiple questions regarding my consumption and coping skills. I have not been hiding the fact that I dont drink any longer but I also do not announce it the world. I am open when needed but for the most part the subject matter doesnt come up in my day to day life.
My drinking was detrimental. It was deadly. My drinking was out of control. I could not stop the downward spiral for a few years. I had been sober for one year and then when my sister was diagnosed with terminal cancer, I drank. It took me 3 years to make it back to being sober.
This sober time has been very different and in all the right ways. My truth does not bring shame to me any longer. I have alcoholism and I am only safe when I dont drink. I cannot have one glass of wine. I cannot have one glass of anything. I will have everything there is, and then more, only to do and say things that are uncharacteristic of my sober self. I just dont have it any me any longer to continue trying to do something that is not meant for me. I dont know what has changed this time around but I feel at peace with my decision. Truly at peace.
I use this forum as support. I have family and friends who support me and I keep moving forward. There are many roads to the same destination and each road holds truth. I pick up some pieces of wisdom from here and there and they are safely stored if I ever need them. So far, the idea of drinking has not come into play. I am thankful. I am grateful. I am blessed.
Sobriety in the beginning is really hard. I think it is supposed to be hard. It does get easier and it does begin to make sense. It doesnt have to be a heavy mess. It can be freeing and it can produce results that seem like miracles. Just keep moving forward.
So, THANK YOU ALL for the support and for the love. I feel it. I know it. I am honored to be apart of this community.
