New, 6 days sober

I started going to AA about a week ago. Its been 6 days since my last drink. If i am honest, i would have drank a couple of days ago if i would have had the money to blow on alcohol. I feel so torn between wanting to experience that "buzz" again and wanting to keep going. I get paid Friday and fear that i will start again. The only thing that gives me hope is that I've met so many people in AA with years and years of sobriety so i know it's possible.

Hello and welcome.
Yes, there are people with years of sobriety who are staying sober. I'm one of them. It is possible. Great job on going to AA, it helped me and saved the life of this alcoholic.
Maybe go to a meeting on Friday instead of having a drink.
Remember, you never have to drink again. What helped me was remembering the guilt shame and anxiety after drinking before I took that first drink.
Best to you, and stick around here. You'll find lots of support here.
Best to you.

Welcome to SR and well done on 6 days. That's a great achievement. Start planning today what you will be doing on Friday to not drink. Post here a lot. Go to an AA meeting. Call someone if you have the numbers of sober supportive people. Anything to get past Friday. And just remember, it's just a day like any other day.

Keep coming back.

Welcome to SR and great job on 6 days. I can only speak for myself, but sobriety is something that needs total commitment. Any sitting on the fence about the idea of drinking will likely lead to relapse. Its something you really have to want, like really bad. There is a payoff though, and its worth it. May not seem like it at first, but it comes with time. I wish you the best.

Welcome to SR, Skittles; very glad that you found us.

Good to hear that you are utilizing AA: a strong plan and strong resources are essential. Give it your all and then some.

A sober life is worth every effort you put into it.

Recovery rocks.

Why don't you spend the money you would have used to buy alcohol on something you could bring and share with your friends at the AA meeting!! Treat them and yourself and let them know you appreciate them being there for you!:e100:
