How to find an out of state treatment center that accepts medicare?

Hi all, not sure if this is an appropriate place to post this, but here goes. I have a family member who lives out of state, and is just getting out of detox for alcohol. He is in a very bad way with alcohol, and I am trying to help him get into an inpatient treatment center as soon as possible. He and his wife are not very good at asking questions and researching, so that is where I come in. He is 51 years old, and on medical disability, and so his insurance source is Medicare. How does one go about finding information on medicare accepting programs? Does medicare itself offer any help, or do I call one of the 1-800 numbers, or what? He has been getting his primary care thought the VA, but they are all 6 months out! isn't that sad? Any help much appreciated.

Peace

Eric

Hi Eric,

I Googled "alchoholism treatment that accepts Medicare" and got some results that might be a place to start:

Drug Rehab Programs That Accept Medicare By State

And from medicare.gov . . .

Substance
Abuse
&
Mental
Health
Services
Administration
(SAMHSA)

SAMHSA has a treatment facility locator and a mental
health services locator on its website.
Visit samhsa.gov, or call
1-877-SAMHSA-7 (1-877-726-4727).

You're a good guy to do this for your relative.

You can call medicare directly and ask what centers accept it. You can also look on their website or area rehabs you're looking into and they often will state what insurance they take.

The SAMSHA website also has a facility locator by location and you can refine the results by factors like medicare

Thanks all, I knew this would be helpful. I sure hope one of these pans out, I don't know how may more times he has left. this latest detox ended up with full blown DT's and some heart damage from atrial fibrillation- I had never seen anything like that before- really helped shore up my own sobriety.

I'll post an update when we get this figured out

Cheers,

Eric
