To the ones without mothers, I wrote you a poem

To the ones without mothers to see or call on this day,
Who have big holes in their hearts for she no longer could stay;
You think back on your childhood how she would hold you and play,
How she laughed and she smiled in her own unique loving way.

You see all of the flowers, the perfect present or card,
Of all the days in the year this one's especially hard;
The wound still feels open, your sense of security marred,
You always knew it would hurt but not how deep you'd be scarred

You go through the what if's and should have's, you ask yourself why?
You see others with mothers and it is hard not to cry;
It never fully sinks in even when years have gone by,
and you cannot get closure no matter how hard you try.

Did you show her enough love? To ask yourself is unfair,
But you sometimes mix guilt in with your cold grief and despair;
This cocktail of feelings kept to yourself you will not share,
On this day when we envy the ones who have not been there.

They do not know how it hurts when you are laying in bed,
And it hits you once again, that ton of bricks full of dread.
The memories are all made, they're locked away in your head;
All of the hugs have been hugged, all of the words have been said.

There is a constant reminder in a cloud drenched with pain,
On this day filled with sunshine while you are locked in the rain.
But to speak of your sorrow feels out of place and profane,
So you keep it all inside, anything else would be vain.

Mother's Day is a hard one but you're not in this alone,
I share these gut wrenching feelings that aren't easily shown.
We have an unspoken bond, I want to let that be known,
The ones who talk to their mothers without using a phone.

Thank you, Lady. That is lovely.
I still have my mom. She is almost 92. She drives me insane at times, but, really, each day with her is a gift.
Peace.

I loved it, Ladyshipwreck. Mine is gone now too - knowing others understand helps so much.

Lady, this is my first Mothers' day without my mom. an d while i don't share all the feelings you so well express in your poem, i am so very touched by the thoughtfulness, care and willingness to share your love and loss and thinking of others.

Thank you.
