sobriety

43 days today and i couldn't be happier. In the beginning its rough but take it one day at a time and the days just fly by . Dont ever give in!

But anyways things are going good. I quit drinking for 2 weeks then i quit the cigarettes best thing i ever did . Im saving so much money now, money i was just blowing and never thought i would have . I consolidated all my debt and im saving for a newer car. So far lifes been great. I still have my moments when im stressed and all that pops into my head is going to the bar or store and get booze but then it goes away within 5-10 min. Yesterday my son was having a bad day and was driving me up a wall and thats when i was thinking about drinking...but i played the tape through.

But the only thing is im in the same situation as last time i had 30 days and ended up drinking again . Im supposed to be going to a concert to see Metallica soon and im double thinking it . Im not sure if im ready to be around that just yet but im also not sure how to give the news that i dont want to go . Ive been looking forward to going but my sobriety right now is more important then a concert.

I went to a few concerts in relatively early sobriety. It felt a little odd, at first.... and the smell of the beer pervading the venue was a strong reminder and felt a little uncomfortable.

But I had resolved to honor my choice of sobriety, kept to it, had fun and each was a victory that led to a deepened sobriety resolve and a "win" that would help me continue to stay sober.

Go into it - if you go - with a conscious reaffirmation of your choice of sobriety, a plan, and a conviction to stick to it. If you don't feel you're on solid ground, don't go.

Keep it up.

Then don't repeat how you handled your choice.

Metal concerts were drinking blow outs for me. Once sober, I waited two years before I attended a show. At that point I was confident I could handle it. And did.

Two years, not two months. Protect what you have.

congrats! 43 days is great!!

There is nothing wrong with putting your sobriety first! If you want to cancel you should cancel!

I made myself go to a 4th of July party when I was 30 days sober. I was so uncomfortable.

Yea i dont think im going to go. Last august i had 30+ days sober then i went to a black sabbath concert thinking i wasent going to drink and if offered what i would say. First thing i do when i get there is drink a beer and then alot more . Even though everyone on here warned me not to go 30 days is to early but i was a mr know it all and didnt listen . I dont care about the money i spent on the ticket its just i would really like to see the band but thats fine. My girlfriends the one more worried about the money part but the sobriety's more important no matter what .

I think you're making the right choice by not going to the concert.

Congrats on 43 Days

i would fake an illness, car trouble, or what ever makes the most sense. Maybe even the truth if your comfortable revealing it. I would not torment myself over the decision, your sobriety is the most important thing.

Can you give your ticket to someone else who'd like to go?
