Found a job =)
Well, I already had a job, as a manager at a bar.
Obviously I needed to quit because being around that environment long term wasn't going to work out.
The problem was due to the rather severe changes in the benefits system quitting my job would have pretty much rendered me homeless.
Luckily, I've been applying away and got a job working at a supermarket. It's a pay cut and I guess some might see it as a step down, but it's definitely the right thing to do.
My plan right now is to just carry on and start thinking about looking for another career maybe next year, I think I should give myself the next six or so months just to stay sober and get healthy and then maybe over the course of next year start working out some longer term plans.
It's a big shift, I've worked there since I was 22 on and off. But it's got to be done.
Luckily I've been granted immediate leave due to people knowing about my problem.
Onwards and upwards!

My plan round now is to just carry on and start thinking about looking for another career maybe next year, I think I should give myself the next six or so months just to stay sober and get healthy and then maybe over the course of next year start working out some longer term plans.

Kudos to you for being so positively proactive.
Hitch- very, very good for you. My sponsor is a prof. artist and has an exhibition coming up in tourist brochure worthy wine country- in a winery. He invited me- but not going. The best way to avoid temptation is not to be near it. Yes onwards- TO INFINITY ...AND BEYOND!
Congrats on the new job. I make a small bit less than I did last year but without the drinking and smoking I'm financially ahead (quit smoking a year ago, last drink 5 years ago). Keep it up
Hitch, I admire you for making the tough, but necessary decision to change jobs. This is just one more thing that will help you with your recovery. As you said, take some time, and then think about a career change in a little while, if you like. Be very proud of your choices.
