My first AA meeting tonight ..

Having caved in yet again, I have recognised that I appear to blame my son's behaviour for my drinking when, in fact, it is MY behaviour and MY decision-making that needs changing. I am going to my first AA meeting tonight as I clearly need extra tools to deal with this. Wish me luck ! Xx

AA has also changed my life. It's kept me sober for almost a year now! You'll find a great group of people who will completely understand you.

Let us know how it goes

Meetings are awesome!!! Bunch of people just like us with one common goal - to not drink. Please let us know how it goes!

Good for you, for I picked up many, many sober tools in AA.

Had my first meeting Wednesday and it was great. Can't wait to go back. Just haven't yet because I got really sick on Thursday and still am today. It feels like withdrawal sickness but it can't be because I am at Day 22. So it must be the flu! Anyway, I am looking forward to returning.

Sorry you're poorly Tertor. If you could do with a top up of AA while you're still house bound you could always listen to some of the speakers on here... 5500+ AA Speakers & Tapes | Alcoholism & Addiction Recovery

Hope you feel better soon. BB

So the meeting was good BUT it was HUGE - over 100 people. Apparently this is not usual - they were coming to get their chips. I met three lovely women who gave me their numbers. I will definitely go back but need to find a smaller one. There was quite a lot of mention of a God and praying - I don't do God but apparently your higher power can be the strength of the group. Thanks for the support on here ! Xx

That's a big meeting! The ones I go to tend to be max 30. Maybe you could call those numbers and ask which meetings they recommend for being a little more intimate and less busy .

If you want to read around what other people understand by Higher Power (referred to in meetings as God) then it's worth visiting the 12-step area and exploring the threads on steps 2 and step 3. Step 2 - SoberRecovery : Alcoholism Drug Addiction Help and Information
Step 3 - SoberRecovery : Alcoholism Drug Addiction Help and Information

There are plenty of speakers on steps 1 to 3 as well that you might find it useful to listen to... 5500+ AA Speakers & Tapes | Alcoholism & Addiction Recovery

Wishing you all the best for your sobriety and recovery. BB

Glad the meeting went well for you. Most meetings I go to are between 15 - 25 people. Keep trying other meetings.
