Good Day All!
It's been a long time since I posted in this wonderful forum for people who are looking to better their lives and free themselves from substance "prison".
May 2 became the 8th month sober. During this whole time, I have not had a single alcoholic beverage. It's a new record for me.
Nevertheless, there isn't a single day that passes where I do not think about alcohol. I'm just taking one day at a time. Many of my "friends" and even my family members ask, "Are you never drinking again?". My all-time favorite response is, "I'm not totally sure, but I know one thing, I am not drinking today".
For those that are interested, what put me over the edge and has helped me tremendously, is the book titled, "This Naked Mind", by Annie Grace.
The book makes total sense to me in that it claims the subconscious mind is the culprit! Your subconscious mind makes decisions way before your conscious mind decides. For example, you may consciously decide to not drink; however, your subconscious mind has already decided for you and if your subconscious mind has agreed to drink, your conscious mind is helpless.
Now, I'm not saying this will work for anyone, but it has helped me.
I wish you all the best on your road to recovery. It's a great feeling to have inner peace and to be free from those "internal" pressures to drink.
Best!

Well done on 8 months! That is fantastic. And thanks for the book reference. I don't think we can have too much knowledge or too many ideas when it comes to getting and staying sober. Glad you sound so happy, positive and strong
I have added your book recommendation to our book list:
