AV... Seriously???
My AV seriously just said, "You're young enough to have a couple relapses..." Seriously? This is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard... and it makes me feel so betrayed by my own mind. I read through the forums daily (I'm on day 13) and when I come across someone who is older than me, who has been drinking for longer.. I get this stupid idea that at 30, I'm "young enough" to have a couple relapses, have a "good" time, and then stop later. Madness.
Madness is right!!!!
My relapse, in my mid 30's, lasted for about 22 years.
I am now in my late 50's, sober for 2 years and 4 months.
I couldn't just dip my toe in the waters, it became a full on drowning.
To sobriety and onward!

2ndhandrose: I know for a fact I can't just dip my toe in the waters. Every time I have "just a couple", fast forward a couple weeks- and I'm getting blacked out drunk by myself every night, lost in a depression. Things aren't great right now, but it's better than being drunk and ashamed all the time.
It was in my 30's that I did the most damage by thinking the same way. Don't make the same mistake a lot of us made by waiting a few decades before finally doing something about it.

"My worst day sober is better than my best day drunk."
I doubt you'll find anyone here who says gee I'm glad I put 20 years into crazy alcoholic drinking....
and we're the ones who survive. I'm thinking of two people here who died in their 30's early 40s from this stuff.
