Drank
Sober for 14 days and drank a six pack after work last night. I was so mad at myself, that I made myself stay up until I was sober so I couldn't go to sleep drunk. Stupid! This is where the self sabotage usually kicks in and I say "well you screwed up, too late now, may as well keep drinking." Not going to drink today. Just thought I'd share/vent.
The binge reprimes your brain.
Drinking may not have been as much stupid as a chemical imbalance your brain needed to not go into fight or flight.
I believe this obsessive and anxious time is why folks relapse over and over. It takes a long long time to develop sober muscles to resist these relapses.
How long...maybe a year...
Thanks.

I am happy you are back on track. You got that right..the worst thing is getting in the mindset that you already blew it ...and keep drinking. Sobriety is a very tricky thing. You can tell yourself all kinds of garbage to talk yourself back into drinking. It has happened to me! Glad you are here.

On a positive note...our slips point out the feelings and situations that get us. Everyone has different triggers, so we need to keep in mind what does it for us and make avoiding those situations part of our plan. I find it helpful to keep a diary of my slips to remind me where my thought process was at that point so I can try to avoid it going forward. Good luck to you and everyone else recover ing from a slip today 😎

This was my experience- fortunately, I've been in the BB category that promises will be fulfilled, sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly - of "quickly" on this and others.
Glad you made it back. Relapse does not have to be part of recovery and this absolutely can be your last start.
What's your plan this time?
