Seizure

Can you have withdrawl seizures and DTs from binging once a week?

I do not think anybody here is able to give this kind of advise. There are so many different variables and everyone is different.

Myself, I am starting on my 2nd day after a daily 1/2 pint of vodka binge. I have no symptoms yet but am trying to be aware of any withdrawal symptoms and I am hoping my wife would bring me to a hospital if things got bad.

I would say if you are worried about DT's then see a doctor.

Withdrawals are always unpredictable.

Please go to an ER if you are concerned or contact your dr.

There really is no way to predict how withdrawal will play out. I had a seizure when I quit but luckily had finally checked myself into detox so I was in a safe environment. As it was I spent a week in hospital, and then 2 months in rehab. Please consult a doctor; they can give you medications to make you comfortable. I wish you the best; I thought I was absolutely a hopeless case but now have 16 wonderful months of sobriety. You can do this.

How do you know you might be at risk of a seizure? For example if you start to get a tremor? When would I know I need to go to ER?

HIGHLY unlikely. Relax. You are having withdrawal paranoia and anxiety.

Had two seizures. Both after weekend benders. But what applies to me doesn't necessarily apply to you or anyone else, SN. My experience is that I did not have a sense that anything was out of the ordinary, other than the normal, miserable withdrawal symptoms. Then I woke up in an ambulance.

I'd say, if you're concerned, go to urgent care/ER. They'll give you something to help with your anxiety for a few days, and benzos are also anti-seizure meds, so you will have that covered, too. Win-win

Have you gotten a plan in place yet? You never know what could go wrong when alcohol is put into your system.

No two people are the same so it's best to consult your GP/Dr.

I've never had a seizure. I'm not sure you get warning signs or what they could be SN.

I can only re-iterate- if you feel unwell, scared or concerned, do go to the ER, ok?

I feel scared of all the stories I've read on here. From what I've read they happen after at least 2 weeks of continuous drinking. I binged last night only in past week but have months of stopping and starting

Went to my doctor. She had never heard of kindling!!! She said you can have withdrawals after one episode of drinking but didn't seem to concerned about seizures, however, she had never heard of kindling so I guess I'm still a bit in the dark.

Sober,

In my experience....

As long as I drank booze....binge, daily or moderation...it was anything can happen time.

Trying to moderate always led to a gigantic destructive binge.

Daily drinking, self medication, went on for years and years. My brain was getting mushy. It was pathetic. Yay?

I believe i had some seizures and paranoid obsessing for at least 10 years of my 15 year+ heavy drinking carreer. It was insideously progressive.

Since I stopped drinking alcohol...everything bad mostly stopped.

Drinking = Bad Things Happen Life
Sober= What is Left of our Normal Life

I'm positive I've done some irreversible damage to myself. Yay.

If you are on meds and drinking...that is a double whammy.

The best thing is to get fully clean and let your poor brain and body work like they are intended. They my never ever be perfect again, but they will try their best if you give them a chance.

The booze and meds are poison.

Thanks.

Hey SN. how long have you been sober now? Have you had symptoms before in the past when you quit?

I've been trying to quit for months. I last a few days to a week then have a one night binge. Sometimes the next day I get fast pulse and a bit high blood pressure. Occasional headache.

SN, your doctor knows you better then anyone here and if she is not concerned then there is a reason why.

You sound in a way like me going off the bottle and and then once a week falling to a binge, my binges are much longer however.

Just stopping does not seem to be working. You might consider a plan of how you are going to handle this the next tome it comes up. I am not the best person for advise on this because I am only close to two days sober myself.
