Back to rock bottom

I am so embarrassed to be typing this post....I am ashamed that I'm not capable of stopping, I don't know what else to do...I have been on a week long binder, and I can't seem to stop.

I am so sad that I keep failing...

Please forgive me for giving in to this demon....

This can also be a chance for a new beginning. Think about what you might try to do different this time. I had too many rock bottoms to count until I finally was willing to make the big life changes necessary to get sober. You can do this, it just starts with the right attitude and plan.

Dont be embarrassed. It takes a lot of courage to tell on yourself. You can do this. One day at a time.

Wildflower, you don't have to be embarrassed. This disease is incredibly difficult to tackle, and relapse is an unfortunate reality for many people. I've relapsed several times and felt the old familiar shame, guilt, and anxiety... But it doesn't have to happen again!! If you've been on a bender for a week, you may want to consider a detox facility. Keep in mind that alcohol detox can be dangerous... Not to try to scare you, but it's the only potentially fatal detox. But with professional supervision, you'll be fine give yourself a break -- today is a brand new day!!!

You need to forgive yourself, get up and try again. What can you do to stop? For now- hydrate, eat and try to rest. See you doc about stopping- w/d's are dangerous for me. Go to meetings- aa or smart. Keep posting. Nothing to forgive- you are human. Support to you. Pj

No need to apologize to any of us! We've all been in your shoes! You did the right thing by posting. I found that I kept relapsing over and over again until I developed a plan to combat any further slips. So far it's working.

Just don't drink today!

Hugs!

Keep in mind that some days are easier than others....keep busy. That is the whole key is to find something to occupy what used to be your drinking time. But yeah...no apology needed! Even if you just take a break and go for a walk...that helps.

If you cannot stop on your own are you prepared to seek professional help? It might save your life.

Also, remember that it can always get worse if you pick up. there are a few times that I was sure it couldn't get any lower... Until it did. There's no problem that can't be made worse with alcohol!! But remember - relapse happens, but it doesn't have to!! I agree with the others on making a plan of action. Get to a meeting and get some phone numbers to call in case you feel tempted - and you will be tempted. We have to be vigilant at all times but recovery is possible!

I don't know what else to do

we must be willing to go to any lengths, to try things that we waved off before.

in patient treatment is an excellent place to get some fundamentals of sobriety in place.

AA or other support groups can offer fellowship and a program to help keep you focused and on track.

having a heart to heart with your dr and asking for a medically supervised detox and medications that help support ongoing sobriety is another option.

pouring out the booze now and calling a sober friend.

it's about what you are willing to do for your recovery.

Glad that you came back, wildflower.

Great advice above.

Do you have a plan for sobriety?

I'll post links to a couple of great threads in a moment.

I'll tell ya Wildflower, I came very very close to relapsing this weekend. I was literally at the point of counting the seconds until my AV would stop! If I hadn't had a well thought out plan to fight the urge, I would have relapsed.

One thing I know for sure...every time I am triggered and I don't relapse, I feel so much stronger...it actually helps me the next time I am faced with a sudden trigger. I think...how did I move through it the last time? If I was able to get past it before, I can do it again. This isn't going to last long..."this too shall pass"...and it does.

Again, don't beat yourself up. Just get back at it and use the knowledge you gained from this slip to be prepared for the next trigger.

You can do this!!!

No need to ask for forgiveness wildflower - we all have been there.

There's some great advice above tho - if you simply can't stop by yourself maybe you need to call in reinforcements?
