Pain killers
Hi all,
I've been doing great, daily AA meetings, eating healthy....90% of the time, I still like an orange soda and some junk food once in a while.
Last week I was working and got carless with a cross cut saw, took a third of my pinky off, the doctors explained they couldn't attach it and made a skin cap for end of my now stump. The ER doctor, a very nice young woman, kept trying to give me pain meds. I told her I'm an alcoholic and don't want those as they mess with my brain and I'm just getting my brain back in shape. She kept pushing and asking, got real annoying. Finally another doctor a little older than her, explained why I didn't want the meds. This doctor it turns out has been sober 17 years.
Alcoholism, doesn't care about, your job, your social status, it can and does effect everyone. Well just my thoughts. Hope everyone is doing well and keeping strong.
Take Care,
Mick

Mick,
Sorry sir about your pinky.
Can you expand on why you didn't want pain meds.
Is it because you are worried about addiction?
Or do they mess w your brain more because of your previous booze issue?
The reason I ask is because I take otc zyrtec for alergies and it seems to mess my brain more than I would like.
Thanks.

The reason I didn't want pain meds is, the meds seem to do what alcohol does, gets me high lowers my inhibitions and it's just a place I don't want to go. Plus right now, being in early recovery, everything is so raw, my brain was in a fog of booze for so long, now it's all waking up. Until I'm way more stable, I don't want anything to screw up the healing my brain is doing. Hope that makes some sort of sense.

Ice packs, meditation and calming your mind do wonders. As my old DI once said "pain is just weakness leaving your body." Kind of BS but pain I can deal with drinking or other things I can not.
6 surgeries a d 2 rounds of chemo that i went through involved some tremendous pain, there wasnt any weakness in me. i was extremely strong.
and wise to let God and the doctors do what they do best.
good on ya for noticing a potential problem ya might have.
