Shaking

Hi looking to see if anyone is similar to my dad. He is 68 and cannot remeder the last day in his life he didnt have a drink. Dangerously 5 weeks ago he suddenly decided enough is enough and stopped all alcohol intake. He got through it with no medical help. Last week after falling yet again i insisted he go to hospital. Bloods and heart ok. Brain scan no substantial changes. He is currently using a zimmer frame or walking stick. Still falling occasionally. However his right arm is still shaking. This is really affecting him. He struggles to eat and his fine motor skills are so bad he cannot hold a pen. I did not get speaking to doctor before he was let out of hospital unfortunately. Will this shaking and disorientation go away. He is eating well and trying to exercise 5 weeks sober drank two bittkes wine plus numerous beers per day.

Norney.

Doctor.
His Doctor.
Real Doctor.

(Not Dr. Google either.)

No one here is qualified to answer your question, even the doctors here.

Good luck with your dad. Hope he keeps up with not drinking.

Perhaps a follow-up visit or call is in order, Norney.

Prayers for you and your Dad.

Welcome to SR Norney, sorry to hear your dad is not doing well. As mentioned above, you really do need to speak to a doctor about this, there's no way we can diagnose his symptoms here via the internet. I'm sure that his quitting will benefit him in the long run - maybe you could try calling the hospital and speaking with a nurse or the doctor who treated him to see if they might have some suggestions, or maybe take him back for a follow up visit?

Thats interesting, and unfortunate. I would tend to guess a mini stroke or something but brain and heart checked out ok with no changes so it rules that out. Please keep us updated if you find something out.

I know that everyone is different and everyone should be seen by their own doctor. For me my hands shook for almost 2 years after I stopped drinking. It got better over time. I also use to be dizzy a lot, and that got better over time as well.

Well done to your dad for stopping drinking. He's fortunate to have your support.

The shaking may be age related. Get a doc to check it. Again, well done. Courageous.

Hi Norney

I'm going to back everyone else up here and suggest a follow up with your family Doctor.

Shaking can be a by product or withdrawal, and a hundred other things besides.

Seeing the Dr is the only way to know if everything is ok, or not.
