Night petals, night gang.

Nice job Zombie79, hope to see you 'round the weekenders thread. Keep posting.

Night guys, it's just about dinner time for me.

This last few weeks, I find that my energy levels have dropped, I'm sleeping more and craving sweets again. In fact I had two naps today. I did get some stuff done but not much. I'm sure it's just stress.

Nice sunny afternoon here, I was driving daughter back from (guess where?) the pet shop (looking at more hamster stuff). I was looking at the nice blue sky when bam! craving. out of no where! We pulled into a convenience store I got us a couple of large ice cold slurpees. That did the trick. Where the craving came from? I have no idea. The AV was trying to catch me of guard sneaky little bugger.....

It's Monday morning here in Aus and I'm pleased to say I made it through my first weekend sober. Distraction was my friend when the cravings tried to take over, and I even said 'no' when husband had a couple of beers Sunday afternoon. He's also a 'problem drinker' and supports my quitting, but will not quit entirely himself. He's going to 'drastically cut back' he tells me...hmmmm....because we haven't tried that before *rolls eyes*.

Anyway, it's day 6 for me and I'm feeling good to have almost made it a week.

Enjoying all the tidbits from your weekends :slomo:

Great job on shutting that craving down before it had a chance to really affect your decision making, SoberT :c006:

In the spirit of bimini I have to call you out. Last I knew there were no drivets around here :p

No interlock until next year after my deferred sentencing comes to fruition. I will be 20 months sober at that point and will have had my full license back with NO restrictions for almost 10 months and I lose it again for 5 months. For the first month I can't drive at all then I can have the interlock installed for the remaining four. This is because you are tried here by the DMV then by the court. I have served my sentence for the DMV, next year I serve for the court.

Believe me, there's a lot of resentment in me about this until I remind myself whose fault this all is.

STDragon,

Have you talked to a doctor about this?:

She's having a good weekend so far. Wednesday and Thursday were bad days, it seems her mood goes thru weekly cycles. She was on birth control for her acne but stopped that ~ 10 days ago.
Birth control can cause many hormonal changes. I'm sure you've already discussed it. I'm glad to hear she's having a good weekend!

How did Cloud like the ball?

STDragon 04-23-2017 07:26 PM

Yes we have help, LadyBlue. Two weeks ago Tuesday we spent all night in the crisis response center together. She came to us because of thoughts of suicide. Hospitalization was an option but she didn't want that and we did not want to push it on her, so we've been staying with her depending how she's doing. We have an appointment with a mental health specialist on Thursday morning.

That's also sort of the back story on cloud the 'therapy hamster'. As much as my wife hates rodent like critters, she reneged. My daughter was wanting one since the start of the year and we thought we had turned her fancy to a budgie. But the hamster came up again on Friday and we thought it would be a good distraction for her.

STDragon 04-23-2017 07:30 PM

We had cloud in his ball this evening and seems to have gotten the hang of moving about slowly in it. My wife's resistance is very quickly fading. She was taking pictures of cloud and we called her a proud grandma. The dog doesn't think much of it. Upon introduction he wanted to scratch the ball open. So the two had to be separated.

drivets = small or short drives:)

That sounds annoying that you have to wait such a long time LadyBlue but i'm glad you are doing so well.

Good work on defeating that AV SoberTDragon. I think we have a new star in therapy hamster Cloud.

Good morning

STDragon 04-24-2017 03:49 AM

Good morning gang,. Hard time getting out of bed this morning. played the snooze bar for a half hour. Little bit of sinus pressure too. Had to get up in the middle of the night to clear my nose. I think I might be coming down with something.

Olive1 04-24-2017 05:27 AM

good Morning Enders!

Heard yesterday:
There have been only two days of rain here in the NW this season (one lasted 45 days, the other 35) :lmao

Being a gray, rain and cloud loving individual, I have much enjoyed this particular transition from winter to spring.
On behalf of myself and the green and flowers yet to come, I'd like to thank all of those who have tolerated.

Happy Monday!
:)

What has change got to do with a thread about staying off of drugs and alcohol at the weekend? Good question.

The old, discredited view of alcoholism/addiction is that it is a moral failing by weak people (it seems plenty of people still think this). The modern, scientific view is that a series of chemical hooks and nets hijack our brains. If this second view was the whole truth then we could quit, endure some discomfort and move on but it isn't and so just stopping doesn't work.

This weekend why not make some changes and see where it takes you?

My husband completely believes my alcoholism was a moral failure. He hasn't been supportive, so I'm not surprised in the least.

I do agree with him to a certain extent (and I'm an alcoholic--been hospitalized 2x). I think there's a fork in the road that we choose to make at some point in time, and that's when things go south. Just like dieting, binge eating, and even recovery, we are the agents of our actions. This may not be the popular view and I'm sure I'll get flamed, but I very clearly remember all the times in my early disease where I decided to stop and get a bottle and convinced myself I needed one. In my estimate (am I'm not a holy roller or anything), at least in my case, it was a failing. I don't know if it was a moral failing, but plenty of people don't make that choice and choose to quit while they are ahead.

(oh, I still resent my husband for having this view and I would never share what I'd just written here).

How come so many people think that "reply all" is the correct choice for their crummy little work emails. One day I will hunt them down:angryfire

Alcoholism isn't a moral failure, it is a disease. We can't control the fact that alcohol effects us differently. Obviously. We have tried.

I think where it becomes "moral" is right where it spills over and starts effecting people other than ourselves and we can see that and we continue to do it. Just my two cents, I'm no expert.

Hi, everyone! Trying to catch up on the thread. LOVE Cloud, the therapy hamster!

Oh my gosh, one of the reasons I am so glad this semester is over is because my instructor, who is done with us for now, has a habit of sending out group text messages with reminders of assignments and schedule changes and such... and then every. single. person. hits. reply. all.

And I get a dozen messages that say K THANKS! But because I have a really basic cell phone, and they all have smart phones, it has to condense the message in a way that my phone has to download it... so for each little "K thanks" reply, I gotta hit receive message, wait about 30 seconds for it download, open it and read it.. AND ALL IT SAYS IS K! And if I was in the middle of writing a text to someone, it knocked me out of that and I have to start all over.
