Day 3 after one bottle on wine everyday for 25 years Hi and thank you for this forum - a virtual haven. I was decorating last Thursday night with my former best friend (a bottle of Chardonnay) when I fell from the ladder. The next morning I had a vague recollection of what happened but was horrified to see the most horrendous bruises all over my legs and arms! So whilst I hold down a great job and have 4 wonderful children - I concluded based on the above and many other incidents that I am an alcoholic who has managed to fool everyone (but not myself). So that was my moment of clarity/realisation - I feel pretty good although tired. It has been reassuring and inspiring to read other people's accounts of what they are dealing with. Thanks again for a great site and good thoughts for all here. |
Welcome to SR, Michy; so very glad you found us. I parted ways with Miss Chard, too. She was a lousy friend. Stay close. We are here for you. |
Former bottle of wine drinker here. Congrats on the sober days. |
Thank you Mizzuno, No withdrawals so far apart from nightmares (at least these aren't real😳 I've just been reading your thread too. |
Thank you SoberLeigh - my new best friend is fizzy mineral water and lemon juice. |
welcome |
Hello. Your post reminded me that my relationship with alcohol started with a bottle of wine. Sounds so innocent. I somehow bought into the idea I was doing something glamorous. I had a special glass and it had to be the right temperature etc. Well done on deciding to quit. I'm on day 1 again but determined not to go back. |
Something feels likes it's shifted this time. A couple of members have pointed out that this addiction is a daily 4/5 hour ritual. That really brought home to me the fact that I am messing up the other 20/19 hours each and every day. |
Congratulations on 3 days Michy. It is not easy to acknowledge a drink problem before it has started to negatively impact relationships and careers so well done for being aware and taking action. |
Welcome and great job on 3 days. Keep it up! |
Welcome to the Forum Michy!! |
Welcome aboard michy :) D |
Welcome to SR! |
Glad you are here Michy! |
welcome to SR! three days is a great start. :) I am glad you are okay. That ladder fall could have been worse. yikes! |
welcome. do you need to see a doc? |
Wellcome and well done i used to wake up covered in bruises after drinking at home i was so ashamed i hid them well, when i admitted to my family my problems i showed them my mum was so upset This group is amazing and miss chard will soon be a thing is the past Wine is evil Good luck |
Thanks for the encouragement. There are amazing people on here who have unique stories of what brings them to the stark realisation that alcohol finally needs to be chucked for good. Travelling back to the me (before years of being a functioning alcoholic) isn't so lonely now. |
Gosh I know - sheer luck that it was only bruising |
No just some rather colourful bruises. But thank you. The ego far more injured |
