Day 14 and feeling nervous...
 
Hi everyone.

I'm feeling a bit anxious because this is a long weekend for me.

My husband has to work and I will be on my own. I have today, the weekend and then Monday off.

I'm estranged from most of my family and I know you can't drink "at" anyone, but holidays are always hard.

I'm gonna bc to stick close and post in this thread for the next few days.

I've worked so hard to get to day 14 and I can't let my emotions or AV mess that up for me!

Try to keep as active as you can to keep the AV at bay, in an emergency there is usually a chore that you can do to distract yourself.

Staying close to SR is a great idea.

don't worry....

choose.

don't fret....

take action.

It's really up to you. The coming of a weekend or an event or another day or situation is not a threat to your sobriety unless you allow it.

So - take that nervousness you feel as a piece of guidance from your inner wisdom. Get out a piece of paper and plan out the next few days.

What actions will you take to support sobriety.
What will you do each morning to reaffirm your choice?
Where will you go to spend your time that isn't about drinking?
What will you say to those who might ask offer you alcohol or invie you along to alcohol events?

There's nothing to fear - except your own decisions. And those are up to you, so there's no reason to fear them either.

Make up a list of all of those things you've been putting off and start crossing them off one by one.

It is gratifying and the next thing you know it will be Tuesday and you will still be sober.

Hi Normancita, congratulations on 14 days! That's amazing.

I totally get your anxiety about the long weekend. It's a definite trigger for me. Right now my AV is telling me that I'm boring and everyone else in the world is drinking and having fun. Maybe I'm starting to get better at listening to my rational voice because I know that my AV is talking utter nonsense. Tons of people don't drink and they still manage to enjoy holidays, birthdays and long weekends. Alcohol isn't the special ingredient that makes Christmas, Easter, holidays etc better. In fact for me, alcohol is the ingredient that has ruined far too many long weekends for me to remember. It's sad but I really can't remember most of them.

So this weekend I'll be going for walks, watching movies, reading books..... doing all that "boring" stuff my AV despises. I'll also be waking up without hangovers, building my self esteem and remembering every detail of each day. I'm not going to let a long weekend throw me off course and I hope you don't either. Ok, so I cleaned the bathroom and washed my bedsheets so they feel fresh and clean.

I also just ate more Mike and Ike's candy but that's way better than guzzling a couple bottles of wine, right?

Next up I'm going to vacuum my place and then wait ch some reruns of Threes Company and Will and Grace.

It's funny but cleaning, candy and comedy really help me....the "Three C's!" Ha ha!

Norma,

In my exp....it has been a little bit easier getting through the craves w each victory.

Rolling the tape through, knowing that drinking will give me just a few minutes of euporia and then hours physical pain and days of mental regret.

When i crave i remember....Booze is a toxin. Drinking is a learned behavior that can be unlearned.

I cranked out 50 push ups yest. Before playing golf.

I enjoyed 3 delicious meals and refreshing soft drinks and water.

Booze has no place in my life any more.

GREAT post.

It is about choice - and filling time- especially early on. I napped (a lot), watched all the shows I half-watched while drinking (boy, I missed a lot of most of them!), went to meetings (AA is my chosen recovery program)....you just have to keep going one foot and minute and day at a time.

You can do it.

The long weekend can be tricky. Some of my character defects are getting a bit jiggly with the back-to-school looming as well. (Won't go into quite how manifesting themselves lol but I am on to them!) Reckon I'm going to sneak an extra AA meeting in this evening, and see if I can't just knock these thoughts to touch.

I slept a lot in the early days. I also tried out a lot of different soft drinks until I settled on soda water and fruit juice as my goto. I also practiced meditation to help stop the thoughts in my head.

Hi everyone. Day 16 and I'm checking in.
I'm going to need support today. I'm alone for the next 7 or 8 hours. Friday night and Sunday daytime used to be my big drinking days...but not anymore!

Easter is a little bit difficult for me and I just can't let my emotions mess up how far I've come in sobriety. In my 5 year drinking career, this is the third farthest I've ever come (once I had 34 days and another time 23 days).

I've got to get through this day! I WILL get through this day!

Hope everyone else is doing well today and handing in there!
