Stay sober Easter Weekender - we can all come back from the dead 14-17 April

A long weekend for many of us, Friday and Monday are both Public Holidays here so I guess the weekend is almost here for some.

The Thursday before Easter 2014 and previous years would have gone something like this: 7am wake up hungover and consider phoning in to work and inventing an illness, decide against this as there is only the one day to get through. 8.30 ish, make it to work feeling evil and vowing not to drink and to make an effort to stay sober. 1pm lunchtime, begin to feel vaguely human but still determined not to drink. 5pm and someone says "Sao, fancy a couple of beers after work?" "sure" would be my reply. 6pm the first few mouthfuls would be a struggle and then bingo!I am on the blackout express.

A friend of mine has an analogue photo of me and another person standing on a billboard some 30 or 40 feet above street level, both of us drunk. I was aged about 36 at the time and had two young daughters, I would take irresponsibility to stratospheric levels.

This thread is not just for people who have some significant amounts of sober time behind them. It is for anyone who has had enough of poisoning themselves with alcohol or drugs and who want to do something better with their lives. Living life sober, it's a kind of resurrection isn't it?

This thread is for anyone who wants to experience life without the need to destroy themselves.

Happy Easter everyone.

UK here too Sao.

At only 17 days I am an absolute baby in sobriety. I recognise a number of triggers associated with a Bank Holiday 4 day weekend and can only further my resolve to not make that a silly excuse to drink alcohol.

My liver doesn't know what day it is and I'm not prepared to confuse it again.

Support to all.

Thank you, Sao.

I am staying by myself till Saturday afternoon in a strange town. I need to fill up today and tomorrow: I think I'll do the first two parts of the Easter Triduum. It's been about 15 years since I've been. I particularly love the Good Friday service.

First test - just being given an alcoholic Easter egg at work!

The positive is that it saves me a shop because I'm going to give it to my partner.

Gilmer- I spent many a night alone in country motels for work. One time- I was teaching CPR to a country hospital, a town of about 400 people. I was practising my CPR technique on resussie Annie in my motel room. The curtains were open- and the gauze curtain still allowed people to see shapes inside. Several people on the walking river track saw me blowing and pushing on this immobile young ladies chest. Kept the curtains closed after that.

Welcome to Weekenders LadyinBC, Just Tony,Myturnaround and AlericB. Great to see you. These extended weekends can be a trial but they are also a whole lot more enjoyable hangover free.

My older sister and BIL have sold their restaurant and are semi retiring. They are having a party tonight, it will likely be boozy so if I go it will not be for long and I will be driving.

I have some decorating planned as Saoutchik Towers could do with a bit of smartening up.

I am IN! Thanks as always for the great opener Sao

I also have no extra time off which is good, lots of work to do.

Friday night is eat what I want for dinner and catch up on all my beloved shows on the DVR.

Saturday morning is groceries followed by housework then exercise, then to my sponsors. 2:00 afternoon meeting. 4:45 surprise party for my niece's 30th birthday and home to do some 4th step writing.

Sunday is volunteer time at our local recovery center from 8 to noon. Then home for lunch and exercise and more 4th step writing. Then head to set up the Sunday evening meeting.

Monday morning back to work.

Sounds like a PLAN to me

How are you planning your weekend? Inserting things at specific points that make it impossible to drink will secure sobriety tenfold.

Welcome to all the newcomers, this is a great place to be!

Good to see you mns1

LadyBlue that sounds like a first rate plan, especially volunteering at your local recovery centre. Volunteers who have walked the walk so to speak must be worth their weight in gold.

Enjoy the Triduum Gilmer.

Ha ha! I just Googled SAO biscuits, they are reputed to stand for Salvation Army Officer which is fitting now that I am abstinent.
