I know how you feel Robin. I have been drinking off and on for 20 years really bad the last 2 I would drink my self sick then quit go through at home detox and usually felt better in a week or two then I would just start up drinking again lying to myself that I can control it. I went on a binge this past weekend Monday morning told my wife I was done couldn't do this anymore. So I am on day 3 doesn't feel that great but I'm getting there. I also found an intensive outpatient program that I had my first meeting last night and have one tonight and tomorrow. I never understood why this disease had such a hold on me but I hope in these next 12 weeks I learn and can fight it and live a sober life. Have faith in yourself you can do it .

I have a dog and cat and noticed that they instinctively back away from any glass containing alcohol . Quite a warning sign.

I now make good use of my dog and go jogging with her as part of my sobriety plan!

I have dogs and am so glad I got sober to care for them properly. They deserve my best efforts.

Thanks for your response.
What did they do at the intensive outpatient program? I have tried meetings once and I did not connect

Well last night was my first night and I've also tried AA meetings in the past but this was different I left with a very positive feeling. I actually felt a connection maybe it was because it was a small group but especially with the the alcoholics during the break actually say down and talked to some of these guys and realized they had stories that were so similar to myself. All I can tell you is its a 12 week 3 night a week treatment with accomplishments and assignments along the way with one on one therapy once a week during the day. It's still early in the game but like I said I feel very positive about this so far.

Hi Robinz, I hope you can find the strength to get and stay sober. It would be a wonderful gift to yourself and your dogs.

My first golden retriever used to look at me with utter disgust when I brought out the bottle. As soon as he heard the ice going in the glass he knew what was up and he hated it. I was a loose cannon drunk. So glad my current golden doesn't really even know what's that's about.

Dogs are intuitive and watch us very closely - I enjoy my relationship with my two dogs so much more in sobriety! They are wonderful companions - they are family.

I suspect it was confusing and disconcerting for one of my dogs when she watched me cry and pass out.

Now my two beagles enjoy a consistent person who cares for them and loves them - your dogs will be happier with a fully present you.

Love my dog so much I stopped eating meat altogether. I can't stand the thought of eating creatures anymore

My dog helps in with my sobriety. I walk him 7 miles a day. When I'm a drunk my wife walks him.....

I have a shepherd /lab mix, a collie, and a giant Saint Bernard. All surrounding me now after a meal and chewing on bones. It's good to hear from other dog owners.

For a long time we had three dogs - a collie/shepherd mix and two beagles. It was always a challenge to come home and pet/greet all three at once!

My dog is my absolute most favorite living creature. So glad I get to be a sober dog mom. She loves me at my worse.
