Sugar cravings

I always used to say that I don't care for sweets or like sugar. Maybe that was true of foods but I was certainly having my sugar in liquid form. Once in a while I just want a sweet treat. I think I'may going to get a bag of small hard candy to suck on. I was craving sugar bad earlier and I had a lifesaver and that did the trick with out over doing it. Feeling great starting out my second week. The detox symptoms are pretty much gone and life is feeling good these days.

A sugar craving hit me hard today. I'm baking brownies right now and the whole house smells like chocolate heaven...

over three years into sobriety, I still battle sugar cravings regularly.

"Tapering" doesn't seem to work with sugar, either....

I couldn't get enough of it the first month or so - but it all settled down. Except for ice cream.

I never ate sweets. Never. Drank a lot of beer. I think I read there is a tablespoon of sugar in each beer. Guess who eats ice cream now? The sober me.

I have a problem with sugar now and need a plan to stop. Eating cookies as I write. I was so skinny for so long now time to think about hypoglycemia. Takes the fun out of over indulgence. It took bad liver tests to get me to quit alcohol I don't want bad blood to make me quit cookies.

When I first quit drinking, I was going through a pound bag of semi-sweet chocolate chips a week. Didn't take long to realize that wasn't going to be sustainable. I've, ahem, moderated a bit now -- I buy good quality dark chocolate and take a square now and then. My doc said to aim for more than 60% cacao content and it's considered a health benefit. Sold!

Fruit is your friend. This coming from someone who was not a big fruit eater in the past. Dates are particularly good for taking care of a sugar craving (and they last pretty much forever in the fridge so easy to keep around).

It is funny you say that. I've never really been big on fruit, I love my veggies though. Lately I've been inhaling apples. Lol
