Far too isolated.

Well I'm back again and struggling in a terrible place with my alcoholism. Socially isolated, speaking to almost no one (except the beer clerk) and drinking all day alone. It's awful and I'm 41, who does this. It's so boring knocking down 18 beers a day. However, I'm going to stay at my mothers house for the next 3 days. No drinking there and she's going to take me to 2 aa meetings a day. I can still drive but I'll say I'm going then go buy beer. Therefore I'll make all 6 meetings and provide a decent start in recovery, albeit small. Try to eat, never do now, take shower, ditto, and move forward a day at a time. Thank you for this site and all of the positive stories of recovery. Have a great day.

i did

i never drank in bars or for fun

i was never hip slick or cool

i always drank at home alone to shut off from life

for me when i was new in aa the most important thing was to listen for the similarities and not the differences

great job on demonstrating willingness to get to a meeting

willingness is the key!

Good job and good luck. I was once like you as well - stayed at home for 2 years (more or less) and just drank with the door locked. Getting out and about and creating new positive sober experiences is crucial. You'll be able to create a foundation starting with AA. Best of luck.

It's good you've got a framework to start from there.Just getting a few consecutive sober days always helped me break out of benders. My parents visiting me down here for 3 days did it once, since I never drank around them even at my worst.

Early in my recovery I found that breaking the routines that I had made while drinking helped a bit. For example, if I wanted to drink in the evening, I would never eat supper because it made me too full to drink and ruined my buzz, so I started making sure I ate supper every night in early recovery. While I was drinking I'd do my chores in the afternoon or evening and reward myself with alcohol, so now I try to do those chores in the morning if I can when the urge to drink was the weakest. Little things like that helped me a lot early on.

Thank you all for the replies. I'm sure it's going to be a rough weekend but hopefully no seizures like in 2014 or hard detox. I'm sure going to stay connected to this site and thanks again.
Any ideas on food or hydration would be appreciated in early sobriety or day one.

Hi mbrett, glad to hear your heading to some meetings. I hope you can find a way to break out of your isolation. I can relate to what you said. I drank alone....and I liked it. Its a terrible trap to get caught in. Over the last year and half I have done things to try and socialize more. I joined a gym, I attend all of our work functions and meetings and go with my wife to gatherings. I could not or would not have done that while drinking. I wish you the best.

Thank you Thomas. The meeting was ok and I'm heading to the next meeting at 7pm. I look forward to getting well. My mind is screaming for alcohol right now. Ugh

Thank you soberwolf. Only one hour to kill until the next meeting at 7. It's been a rough afternoon but no major problems.

Your mind may scream for alcohol and throw fits for a while. Do not relent. You have the power within you to do this. Believe it.
