First Post, Hello to All. Trying to Make Sense of It.

Hi everyone.
I'm new here, and I've been lurking on the website for a few days. It has been helpful. I actually had not had a drink for three days (partially because I have been looking through several posts and comments on here over the last several days...I learned about the AV, for example), but I did break down tonight and had 8 tonight (stopped myself at 8....made myself do it. Stop. Drank a full bottle of Jameson on Saturday night and wanted more...not in great shape on Sunday of course). You can imagine...stressful and frustrating day at work. I just wanted to numb down. I feel stupid now. Losing control scares me. I just wanted to say hello. My routine for a long time was...drinks on Friday and Saturday, whatever and how much...it has started to sneak in on weeknights now. The last several months. Just wanted to say hello, meet likeminded people, learn from your experiences and knowledge.

Good to have you here, Sid. I did the same thing - was once a weekend drinker only. Then Sunday drinking led to Monday - then every day. When I came to SR I was drinking all day with a ruined life. This never has to happen to you. Glad you are taking action.

Welcome!

Good job on 3 days sober!

Alcoholism is a progressive disease and that's likely what you are experiencing. I hope you decide to stop drinking for good.

Well it doesn't sound like it's made it to having a couple in the morning to take the edge off...yet. Sounds like you're heading down a dangerous path. It takes some resolve but you can stop if you really want to and put your mind to it. I'm sure you can pick up various helpful advice and information that can help you from the good members of this site.
Welcome and Good Luck!

Another wasted evening

I drank tonight, passed out and woke up pn the sofa at 3am. A wasted evening. Why do I keep doing this? Another Saturday gone.

Sid,

Welcome. Today is a new day.

The first day for me was always the hardest. My AV said to me "just one more day - we'll start tomorrow..."

Just commit to not drinking today. Tomorrow will take care of itself with your help when that time comes.

Like previous posters have stated, you haven't progressed to the really really bad stage of early morning drinking before work, etc. You are only now venturing into weeknights. You're probably at a much better level to pull the plug on this habit than many other alcoholics. If you must do it gradually then aim at reducing your intake and then eventually make the firm decision to quit altogether. If you do not do this now, then be sure that you are headed to a far worse and darker place than you can ever imagine. Stay close to SR. Always. Whether you've drank or not. Stay close.

Welcome, you have got this.

Are you choosing to cut out weekend drinking now too?
