....Finishing my first post (Didn't know the 15 minute rule)

I really wish folks would have talked so openly and intelligently/practically about alcohol usage and health when I was younger. I had no idea that the alcohol replaces natural bodily processes and that there can be so much damage done during withdrawals. Or that it wastes so many nutrients. We were just told "moderation" but nobody told us why. Instead it seemed like all the films featured stories on why you should not drive your car in front of an oncoming train. That one I could figure out on my own -- it's a 'no-trainer'.

This is so true. I thought the worse it could do to you was give you a nasty hangover. I felt like I didn't get hang overs and if i felt ill, I'd just down a couple of beers in the morning. That caught up to me BIG time. Well, now I know and drinking is not an option for me.

It's great to have you with us, finallyfoundit. Coming here & talking frankly about my drinking helped me find the courage to quit. No one else in my life understood what I was going through. Welcome!

I do not know any alcoholics/addicts in real life, so it can get lonely at times. Also, this is where I get information about alcoholism/addiction and recovery methods. I have been through rehab and various program--and honestly did not understand a lot of what went on. But since coming here, I have been able to get a lot of straight answers.

I do not know what would have happened in my recovery without SR.
