Why do I feel like I have a hangover?

It's my 13th day today and for the last few mornings I have woken up feeling lousy - headache, groggy, aching. Yesterday morning, for a few moments after waking up I actually thought I'd had a drink the night before.

Does anyone else feel, or remember feeling like this at the start of recovery?

Are you staying hydrated and eating fairly well ? Both help lessen the symptoms

I seem to be permanently with a drink near me - but maybe I'm drinking too much coffee and not enough water! I'll up my water consumption today and see if that helps. Thanks GrayGhost.

Coffee will dehydrate you just as surely as alcohol will. A cup or two is fine but I wouldn't recommend it as a regular drink. I go with water or flavored seltzer.

I quit smoking 2 years ago and it was the best decision I ever made besides putting down the alcohol. Amazing how appetite returns ! I'm taking care though not to replace alcohol with food - if I eat half as much as a drank, I'd be a hippo ! LOL

I used to call them phantom hangovers .

13 days is great but it is still early days alcohols claws are long and subbtle changes can happen even after months .. just keep knocking the days out and things will get better.

Ups and downs will happen , thats life , its how we deal with it that counts .

I do remember feeling that way. Like all the earlier symptoms, it did pass. I just reminded myself I felt no worse than I usually did.

Well done on 13 days! Keep it up

Sober hangovers were a thing I experienced as well. It takes time to reverse years, possibly decades of abuse of your body from alcohol. Though stay strong, it does get better little by little every day.
