Day 3 and feeling rough ;(
Day 3 of no drinking after everyday drinking for the best part of 15 years. Yesterday I felt happy and light and strong. Today I'm exhausted. Upset tummy and so so sleepy. I've never stopped before. Is what I'm feeling 'normal" ? X
I'm a few days ahead of you and I definitely have been fatigued and haven't felt well at all. I also feel like I'm having mood swings. Fine one moment, sad the next. However, I have to say that physically, I'm feeling a little better with each day. I'm just trying to allow my body to feel the way it feels while its detoxing years of abuse.
Yes it's normal. Our bodies need to make a lot of adjustments and repair. I found the best thing I could do was take care of it as best I could to support that healing. Rest, good nutrition, fresh air, a bit of exercise...
And time.
And time.
Some people say they started to feel better the moment they quit drinking, but that was not my experience. It took me 8-9 days to get some decent sleep, and I just felt crummy that whole time. Anxiety for a couple of months.
Totally worth the effort, though. I am never going back.
You got this!

Well done on 3 days,I had many day 3's!! and always found it really difficult.
The good news is,you need never have to go through this again, keep going and you will feel better with each passing day.
Look after yoursel,keep hydrated.
Wishing you well.

Hi Tracie
It would be great of recovery was a straight line but it's not.
You could remove the word success here and replace it with recovery.
Early recovery is rough and you'll probably have a few more days when it feels like you're going backwards...but you're not.
I think a lot of us underestimate the toll addiction takes on us...it takes a little while for both mind and body to recuperate and heal.
Don't lose heart tho - you're doing great

I always considered feeling sleepy and going to bed early to be a blessing in early recovery. In fact, I had wished I could sleep for 30 days straight just to get the recovery time in and wake up having been sober a month.
