It Begins
After years of excessive daily drinking with adverse consequences - work, health, young daughter, etc., I finally did something really stupid that could jeopardize my custody rights with my little girl. Then I got a really helpful addictions counselor, did well for a short while, and then slipped again, badly. After a bender to end them all, I finally shut it down. Starting IOP treatment tomorrow. Wish me luck. I am totally committed to making this the end of the saga.

Thank you all for the support. I am a few daily sessions into IOP therapy, and while it has its foibles, I have found it extremely helpful (again, along with my addictions counselor). I already feel like certain things are beginning to make a bit more sense.
In addition to the helpful group meeting support at IOP, the addictions counselor has been working with me on a plan for a more holistic approach to recovery These are his categories: (1) Personal-- exercise, nutrition, sleep; (2) Mental Health -- leisure, mindfulness/meditation, etc., and (3) Medical -- physical health/recovery, dealing with my anxiety issue, etc. All in all, it's been a good start to the journey and feel like there is a sound plan taking shape.
Thanks again to all -- will keep you posted.
