Sshakkking!

I've been banging on in another thread about "new and exciting" things I want to experience now I'm a non drinker.
In half an hour, at the grand old age of 49, I am having my first driving lesson.
The instructor promises the first one won't be on the duel carriageway haha but just around the back streets.
Terrified, but this is what I want my life to be now, opening horizons.
I think the instructor is 20 years younger than me though haha

And I'm a woman!! haha.
Joelle, but I sometimes take a bit of time to catch onto things so my friends renamed me after Joey on Friends

Actually, I think I'm going to be sick. Going to do some housework before he comes to calm myself down.

I didn't get my license until I was in my early 30s because I was simply afraid of the idea of driving (and the idea of failing the test).

Turns out there was nothing at all to worry about. It really was much easier than I thought.

Good luck. If I can do it, anyone can!

MrMcTell, thanks for the boost. They are changing the test in England to make it even harder, and that should come into force just as I should be about to take mine.
See, this is what Ive got to stop doing, projecting into the future! Thinking already about the harder test, I should be thinking about getting through the next few months without wrapping the car around a pole, or killing a pedestrian, or ending up on the central reservation.....
Do duel carriageways have central reservations or just motorways?..I will have to get a highway code book and dvd haha

I would think there are likely a lot of us that would have been better off learning to drive after we got sober, including myself. Looks like you have the right timing. Keep it between the ditches.

Just take it slowly Joey and you'll be a good driver before you know it. Good for you for getting out there and doing the hard stuff.

totfit, I kept it off the pavement, that's a good start in my book! And I think you're right, if I'd had a licence before , I would probably have been banned for life by now.

rose, I have decided not to buy into societys, the medias in particular view that everyone (particularly women) are "past it" once they are out of their 20s. I have lost time to make up haha
PJ I try!
MarkTwain, I'm guessing by the time I pass my test, they will have invented computer driven hover cars

I went the other way on the licence thing, I had my first several tickets and a court date before I was 16, and I didn't drink back then, after I got my licence I became a better driver.

Great job, glad you found your true bad ass behind the wheel. And you know what they say 49 is the new 49 , lol, something like that. I'm holding on to 49 for the next few months
49 is good too, as we remember when text was a word with no connection to a verb, no place on the carriage way or back streets. Pretty soon you will understand how many people drive ,but still have no concept of they're doing !
Good luck with the lessons you will catch on quick, I'm sure

Yes, I remember text, just printed writing not something you do Im glad though that I was brought up in the "olden days" times spent outside playing with our friends, getting up to all sorts, not stuck behind a computer or phone screen sitting in the house posting pictures of yourself to social media every time your expression changes .
How is this for bad ass? I have just started to volunteer for a mental illness charity, just working behind the coffee shop counter in their drop in centre. Last week I was talking to some of the women about my crafting hobby (crocheting). I got a call tonight asking if I was willing to do a craft class there once a week...how is that for bad ass? Leading a crochet circle rock and roll maaan
