I am a newcomer here. I quit drinking on New Years day after my first DWI, and three weeks later, a close friend of mine died of cirrhosis of the liver. I have my ups and downs, but get depressed during the winter. I found other things to drink as alternatives, such as coffee, dandelion tea, green tea, monster energy drinks, carrot juice, mineral water and ginger ale. So far that has been working. It has been almost three months, and I attend a local AA meeting on Wednesdays. Anyone come up with herbal remedies and alternatives to alcohol?

Thank you SoberLeigh. It was real sad. I am 45 years old, and he was only a few months younger than me. Game is not worth the candle is what they say. Meaning, I don't want to die like that.

for some years now I've only drunk water (filtered because it is more platable than plain tap water around here. I'll be drinking only rainwater once I have a tank. Hang on aminute, over Christmas I got a bit carried away and drank sparkling mineral water with apple juice. If I'm feeling particularly lavish I might squeeze a bit of lime into that and even add a sprig of mint. At that time I found (again) that not all bottled mineral waters are the same nor are all apple juices. I preferred the sparkling Italian waters and pressed organic apple juice without additives.
Welcome Leahe
I am so sorry about your friend.
I drink coffee in the morning, Ginger or Mint herbal teas in the afternoon, and for a treat I like soda water, either plain or with a squeeze of lime, and if I am in a very festive mood, I would mix it with Cranberry juice.
I went out for a nice dinner with family and had a "hand crafted soda" Grapefruit and Lavender!! It was delish!

So many great suggestions! Gotta have my cuppa, but also found some great flavoured syrups, my favourite is ginger and lemongrass I mix with club soda and lemon wedges for special occasions. I also got some beautiful drinking glasses, not wine glasses, just lovely tall crystal glasses.
