How much did you drink?

I have no idea about the amount. 6 days a week in average the last 7-8 years. Sunday was “recovery” day, to some extent at least.
Been trying hard to ignore thinking about the amounts, not willing to acknowledge how bad it has been I guess. For sure a scary exercise to do.

I used to do the same thing MsCooterBrown! During my weekly cleaning, I too would have to go into all the nooks and crannies, where I hid the empty bottles! Crazy is the only word for it! What were we thinking?

A fifth of whiskey or vodka in a 24 hour period (Many times in one day if I were home and had the "time") escalated into at times buying the next size up (half gallon, gallon??) and honestly could do one of those in 2 days, too. If it were there, I couldn't leave it alone.

I don't think it matters how much or what we drink, but rather the fact that once we start, we can't stop. And in between drinking I couldn't stop thinking about when my next one would be. The mental state we slowly or quickly deterioate into where we obsess over alcohol is what kills us physically, mentally, and spiritually.
Absolutely right. Alcohol is alcohol. I really only drank the "hard stuff" when I was obviously at my worst but was/ am most definitely an alcoholic. In many ways I think a beer habit is even more dangerous as it's another easy rationalization: "Well, I only drink beer so it's not that bigger deal."

I too was consuming vast volumes of the stuff, "only on the weekends" (read: Thursday thru Tuesday) and obsessing about it during every waking hour. I also drank a lot of those large cans of 8% ice beer because, hey, it's only beer, right?

This post has really upset me. I feel like I have drunk way more than most here. I feel like there's no hope for me and my organs now. I'm awaiting lab results today and can't stop crying and having panic attacks

SoberNunn - kind thoughts to you.
Each of us is different in many ways, I feel comparisons may be interesting sometimes but not especially helpful.
Waiting for test results can be stressful but when you have them, you have the facts and can carry on taking any positive action required.
Best wishes

I drank enough to finally lead me to making the decision to stop.

SoberNunn don't give up, the same line can be drawn under your drinking, and you can have that slice of a happier future, there is always hope!!

I used to drink about 1-2 bottles of wine a night. Just writing that down is awful. I feel so much better sober.

In a typical sitting I would drink nightly until I blacked out. My 750ml bottle of Vodka would usually be down to about a quarter left when I got back on the horse the next night, so I'm coming up w/560ml consumed. This was usually over a 4 hour period. If I was "working from home," which my job allows on occasion, I could easily polish off two bottles but this would be starting off my breakfast with vodka and ending late into the evening with vodka. Yes, when you wake up, brush your teeth, and start pounding vodka you know you're in trouble.

I was the "but I only drink beer, so I am not that bad" type. But it was craft beer, and I knew where the high ABV could be found. I would go for 9%+. I loved to get 3 of the bomber bottles or a 6. It was basically a 12 pack per night of domestic equivalent, but the "it's only 3" or "it's only 6" cop out was good enough for me to justify it to myself I didn't have a problem. Oh, and I didn't buy in bulk either so it was a $200/week habit easily. 4-5-6-7 nights per week for about 4 years. The math doesn't add up favorably - ask my credit card balance. But I am sober now, have a good job and I'll right this ship.

Bottom line for me - doesn't matter what you drank, how much, or how often really. If you're here, you are aware on some level it's a problem. If you can't abstain easily and for an unknown or unplanned period of time, it's a problem. If you structure your drinking, justify it with "good nights" or "only X times per X", it is a problem. But - problems have solutions, and if you're here, you're a step closer to yours in my humble opinion. Lean on the shared experiences here, and don't let perfect stand in the way of better.

Sounds exactly like me.

For the past 2 years I've been downing probably 3/4 a 750ml of vodka per night and would drink that much in as little as 2 or 3 hours until I passed out.

I'm on day 4 now being sober and fighting daily to keep it going, but I have no desire to go back to that again.

How much did you guys drink?
Your pattern sounds somewhat similar to mine at your age, though I was still limiting myself to six units on drinking days back then. You're on a slippery path. You may be able to keep things in check for a few more years, but it sneaks up on you.

A therapist once put it to me like this when I was complaining about recovery programs and how I couldn't relate because "I wasn't anywhere near the level of 'those people.'" He said:

"It's like you're going into a casino 3 nights a week and losing a hundred bucks each time. Somebody else is going in and losing $1000 every night. So what? You're still losing."

That advice kept me sober for about a year while I took it to heart. My advice to you is to quit while you're ahead. It gets worse, to a point where it's physically difficult to quit.

Good luck.

In my 20's I mostly drank only on the weekend. Probably a 12 pack each night Fri/Sat.
Then my 30's I started to drink 3/4 a night during the week and 12 on Fri/Sat.

That progressed to 6, 8, 10, 12 a night topping of at around 14 everday and 18ish on the weekend.

Drank for 25 yrs. The first 15ish went well. The last 10 not so much.

Been sober nearly 3 yrs and I can say there is no comparison. Being sober isn't always easy but being an active alcoholic is WAY harder.

Although I drank enough to kill a horse, it wasnt so much how much i drank as it was my abusive relationship with alcohol. It became my only friend and it was no friend at all. Plenty of times i found myself suicidal coming off a binge and withdrawing.

I'm down on myself in sobriety, but it's nothing like the pain alcohol caused.

Around 61,300 pints.
The human body can take some abuse.
But it shouldn’t have to

Had my first drink 15 years back when I was 23. My first beer was like yuck, who would drink this.

For the next ten years, my run rate was anywhere between 6 to 10 standard beers a week.

When i was about 35 (3 years back) it increased to 12 to 15 beers a week and I realized i was becoming an alcoholic and started cutting down.

Over the last year, I am keeping it down to less than 10 a week and aiming to further cut it down to 0. Enough is enough...
